Comment:
I'm sad cos Syd shuffled off his mortal coil. I know he didn't do much in the last few decades, but I'm still sad, and it got me feeling kinda melancholy. So, this mix, which started off as a kinda psychy tribute, eventually morphed into a sortofa collection of saddish songs by some artists who never quite fulfilled their potential, were lost too early for humanity, or just wrote blindingly good songs. This is for Syd, Nick Drake, (For the record, the Nick Drake song is in my top ten tunes of all time.), Gene Clark, Jimi Hendrix, and a good few others. Say hello to Elysium for me, guys. Title from my fav Byrds tune.Feedback:
lots of singer/songwriters - i'm liking it, great job
Beautiful Gerry! Loads of great tunes to send him home!
A wonderful collection. Too many highlights to mention, although I'm sure if I was to compile an all time top ten tunes list, Judee Sill's The Kiss would be there or thereabouts..
great tribute and line-up
Top to bottom great and very nice closer.
Solid. "Every man dies, but not every man truly lives."
classic picks from top to bottom. well done.
Wonderful.
...and the path is unknown, and there is no easy way down...A charming and evocative mix.
Whoa...really, really great stuff, Gerry. I especially love me some Badfinger amongst the many highlights here.
Wow. How utterly depressing and uplifting at the same time. In my estimation "Buzzin' Fly" is where it's at, but it's all beautiful stuff... every track. Glad you're back.
Superb tribute here, Gerry.
Especially love the Gene Clark/Small Faces segueway!
Especially love the Gene Clark/Small Faces segueway!
Gerry, this is absolute genius and one of the best mixes you've ever done. I think I love everything on it and it appears to flow goregously... One of these days, we should talk trade again.
Excellent, Gerry - too many great picks to single any out, but the whole vibe of the mix makes for a really nice tribute. Likewise I hope we can trade again soon! :)
Lovely, lovely stuff Gerry.
This contains some of my very favourite music. In fact I'm going to put some of these records on when I get home. I'm up for a trade too by the way.
A wonderful collection. Amazing picks throughout.
Totally great in every way.
miserable and celebratory in one mix . . . . a great achievement.great cover too!
A fitting tribute to a group of people whose talents did not, unfortunately, include taking care of themselves as well as they might.
saddish but goodish . . . which is as it should be.
I agree with george metadata.
A classic Gerry mix. Looks pretty awesome.
Looks great, Gerry. First rate songs and cover.
Nice. Real nice. Not worth singling out any tracks becasue it's all good.
Great music and a great sentiment, Gerry.
Straight back into the swing of things with a MOTW!Congrats Gerry!
I was more than a little heartbroken when I saw his face in the paper... Ah, Syd. Syd...Thanks for the tribute, McD12... too sweet in places, but that is how it is, and was...
Great concept, wonderful tribute to Syd, et al. Congrats on MOTW!
Even though it has already been said so many times in so many ways, let me say it, too: this is a great mix.
So beautiful - such a worthy mix of the week.
Beautiful, Gerry.
Congrats on a well-deserved MOTW! That #20 by Spirit is a real kicker.
Well-deserved, indeed. Mix on Gerry!!!
Congrats on the motw Gerry, nearly missed this as it's too fucking hot to play on the computer! Love each & every tune, fancy a trade mon ami?
This is just one of the most outstanding list of tracks I've ever seen. Thanks.
