Comment:

I love Flo & Eddie (Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan of the 60s group the Turtles) and have compiled a mix of my personal favourites from their long career, both during their 60s hitmaking days in the Turtles as well as the 70s where they issued a lot of great (and often humerous, hence the title) rock'n'roll. For some strange reason, a lot of their 70s material is unavailable on cd. These talented guys could take on ANY style and get something memorable out of it: Pop (Elenore and Let Me Make Love to You), protest songs (Let Me Be and Ain't Gonna Party No More), surf & hot Rod (Surfer Dan obviously), doo wop (Teardrops), hard rock & glam rock (Goodbye Surprise, Another Pop Star's Life and Moving Targets), reggae (Sitting in the Park and an interesting version of Happy Together) and of course very often mixing twisted humour into their recordings (Carlos & de Bull, Nikki Hoi, Keep It Warm etc...) Overlooked? You bet!

I'd love to hear this one, as well. Interesting idea. It would've been nice to see some of their work with the Mothers and T. Rex included here, but that's not a criticism, just a "wishful thinking" kind of scenario...

Beautiful.., again. "Keep It Warm" is among my all-time favorite tracks. Ever. Great choices showing the diversity of their talent!

If you've not done so, then make it you life mission to seem them perform. I've had that pleasure twice. Both times, I was stunned into hysterical laughter. A pair of minds like this one encounters only on the rarest of occassions, and I would agree whole-heartedly with the L&H description. Two brilliant for words. Wish they'd go back into the studio... maybe with Todd Rundgren, Godley & Creme to do a tribute to Frank Zappa... paging Mark Mothersbaugh!!!

Hi guys - thanks for the feedback. As for Flo & Eddie returning to the studio: I've just learned that Howard Kaylan has a new album out. You can check it out on his website. Though I was a bit disappointed to learn that it is a collection of covers, he seems to be in fine vocal form judging from the sound clips.

I don't know much of this but am certainly going on a factfinding mission. April 20 - your comments have given me some clues and I think I'd like. A lot.
