Comment:
The first Bill Cosby show (OK, second if you count "I Spy") was my favorite growing up. He played Mr. Kincaid, a gym teacher and basketball coach. It was a pretty typical late 60's / early 70's sitcom. but what stuck with me was the theme song. It was a funky groove with a goofy skat vocal that only Cosby was capable of.About 3 years ago I was reading in Blender or Paste or somewhere that they were releasing the original Jam Sessions that the theme song came from on CD. Besides Quincy Jones, the band was Monty Alexander, Joe Sample, Les McCann, Ray Brown, Milt Jackson, Jimmy Smith, Eddie Harris and Arthur Adams. I remember thinking, "I've got to get this immediately!" Last week I finally got around to ordering it.
I've been digging the disc all week and that was the inspiration for this mix. The first track is the instrumental groove the theme song is based on. The last track is the rhythmn section with Cosby improvising. The original theme song was the two mixed. In between I have put every kind of Funky I could think of.

Feedback:
Bill Cosby is one of my all-time heroes and just looking at that picture warms my heart. I'd love to see his first (OK, second if you cound "I Spy") show, and also to hear this mix.
Love a good funky-monkey mix. Can't say that I know the theme tune but all points in between look good to me (That fun lovin criminals track always makes me laugh).
groovy stuff, look excellent, esp 8-12
Shake it baby, shake it.
To quote The Simpsons' version of Cosby: "with the hippin and a-hoppin and the bippin and a boppin"...in other words, looks very groovy with some fantastic picks (like the Gil Scott-Heron).
Oh man, this is nice, nice, nice. It's too hot right now to shake my moneymaker, but otherwise I'd be up dancing around to this.
Really cool. You've definitely brought us good children the funk. I recently got the soundtrack to the Fat Albert cartoon, which is also excellent.
This looks like a load o' fun. Please count me in for a copy when you've got a minute, my friend...
I'll take Kincaid anyday! This looks f'n GREAT!!
Love this. Great blend of old and new...straight up funk/jazz and hip-hop cross-over.
Know nothing of the show but know and like a whole lotta this.
wow -i haven't thought about this show in a long, long time. nice mix here!
Wonderful collection. Been digging Jaco Pastorius and Tower of Power recently. Love 4,9 & 17 also.
Looks great.
You are in the groove, man.
Heart the choices, brother!
Yeah, I remember Chet Kincaid too! Too bad none of my gym teachers were that cool. FONKY!
You see, the kids listen to the rap music which gives them the brain damage with the hippin' and the hoppin' and the bippin' and the boppin' so they don't know what this mix is all about, you see?!This mix is a lot like a Jello Pudding Pop. No, it's actually like Kodak film. No, this mix has all of excitement of rap music without the filth, flarn, flarn and filth!
My CDT teacher was called Mr Huxtable. Anyway lots of good stuff here- like, as usual, the mix of old and new.
This is too fantastic. A must have!!!
Sounds even better on my stereo than it did in my head!!! THanks ever so much for sharing!
