Comment:

120 minutes long. Back again for the sixth installment of VGM: Volume 6. This is the ULTIMATE video game album to chill to, or even fall asleep to. Some hit games featured on previous albums come back again to sooth your ears with all new mellow hits. Every song on this album is melodic, slow, ambient, or just moody without being eerie. Together it forms the perfect video game music muse. THE OLD: Nobuo Uematsu brings us his wizardry in the form of 8 Final Fantasy VII tracks. You can chill with him at Costa Del Sol, if you get tired of that Flowers Blooming in the Church is always beautiful, still one of the very special moments in video game history. And On the Other Side of the Mountain is a classical quitar work of art. Yasunori Mitsuda is back with 12 hits from Chrono Trigger and the sequel, Chrono Cross. Featuring the incredibly comfortable 16 bit opening, Morning Sunrise, repleate with digitized seagull cries and fireworks. The languished and wonderfully ambient Forest of Illusion and Jellyfish Sea. Island of the Earth Dragon is a masterpiece in itself, very haunting yet wonderous. Keiichi Suzuki and Hirokazu Tanaka come with 4 tracks from Earthbound, the great 4 part Winters aria (Snowman, Winters White, The Wind Blows, Tessie!) is not to be missed! Chris Vrenna is Taking Tea in Dreamland to another level of smoothness. While Yoko Shimomura is soft rocking on the Destiny Islands. Hiroki Kikuta of Secret of Mana fame delivers with A Wish... (the crystal forest theme, achingly beautiful) and Still of the Night, also great. The Zelda series is here, featuring music from the N64 million seller, Ocarina of Time. Kakariko Village captures that small lazy village feeling, while Zora's Domain is probably the best ambient Zelda music ever written. THE NEW: 8 great orchestrated tracks from the playstation 2 epic Star Ocean: Till the End of Time, by Motoi Sakuraba. This game is the 3rd in the series, Fly by Contact is one of the best minimalist pieces I have ever heard, makes me feel like I am flying over water with my hands running across the surface of it. Lakes and Marshes with Doubt, is another moody ambient piece, Ice Crystal a strong powerful, yet still laid back piece. Interval of Freezed Time features a great female vocal, Air Harmony is a magical sythesizer journey, and Brilliant Future is easily Sakuraba's tour de force as far as soothing, thought provoking music goes, one of the best. Finally the last ingredient of this album is 6 hits from Koji Kondo's N64 masterwork, Super Mario 64. The Mario theme has been completely redone, with steel drums. Dire, Dire Docks is still one of my most favorite video game songs of all time, it is just so good, the theme and layering is world class. Cave Dungeon features the old Mario cave music redone (in the N64 game this is the music for Hazy Maze). And finally Piranha Plant's Lullaby is a beautiful song using a music box. Truly this is 2 hours of great *yawn* music, wish I could listen to all of it without falling *yawn* asleep.
