Great year!
Great year for great picks!
Wow, Killer Year, Killer Mix!
a good year for the roses, but I am led to believe a classic year for Port beaten only by the 1912, 1948 and 1927 vintages. The 1963 vintage needs no introduction. It lives up to its superlative reputation in every way. A nearly complete failure in most European wine regions, 1963 produced vintage Ports with monumental concentrations of ripe fruit and perfectly integrated tannins. The perfect accompinment to this mix?
I am glad that I was born in 59, as I was alive and (yes, I mean this) actually aware enough to recall some of these songs... Mom brought home the first Beatles album, prompting Dad to go out and buy 50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong, starting a music war.The folks had the Oribison 45, Grandma had the Johnny Cash 45, CKLW fed us the Brit Invasion and WXYZ gave us all the Motown we could stand, which for me (then and now) is still the soundtrack of my childhood.DAMN fine mix!Oh, and Gobi? Mmmmmmmmm. Yes. Yes.
Yummy as all git out. Thank you so much for sharig this.
NICE. If I mentioned all the great picks here I'd go on for ages - needless to say 'twas a good year for music. The Chiffons and Ronettes picks are wonderful, and I like the Dylan -> end stretch there too!I love port too. Bonus.
I've never seriously considered researching 1963 for a mix 'cause I always thought it was a dead zone 'tween 50's rock & the Brit invasion. Shoulda reminded myself that these are usually the best periods when new things are brewing. I'm downloading right now, but don't need to hear it to know this is a great mix with too many favorites to name.
Commenting before listening here, but looks FAB
I never realised 1963 was such a vintage year. Mind you I'm also up fer celebrating '71 the year Mrs. Frenchy was delivered into this world (I lead the same life
(oops as her after all - dunno what happened there) & how come Gobi's so knowledgeable about port? I can never get him to drink le blanc version cos he always wimps out, muttering something bout the most evil hangover I ever forced upon him???)
It was a very good year. Can't beat the excitement of a brand new 45. Nice collection, Wonder-gents.
I really like these yearly summations. Soooo far better than anything you'd hear elsewhere. Beautiful job.
Wow. Very, very cool. Like lo-fi, I never would've thought this year would have so many great things going on.
Hmmm... I'm really going to date myself here but my sister and I bought some of these singles when they were on the charts. Good year, good mix.
Interesting effort on your part; I look forward to seeing similar history lessons in the future.
Yeahhhhhhhh 1962-63 was Grrrrreeeeaaaaat. Damm, I could've picked up a lot of 30-year-old chicks with this 30 years ago! Really really nice looking. Looking forward to the listen. Thanx.
What's so great about this mix is the way it highlights the diversity of what the avarage teenager listened to at this point in time. I mean, listening today a lot of these tunes might seem similar & linked together by means of their acquired status as 'oldies'. But closer inspection reveals the surf, proto-garage rock, soul, pop, country ballads, girl group sounds, hot rod, instromentals, pop jazz, rock'n'roll etc. This is a freakin' great compilation!
There are no words...outstanding...
I have to agree w/ kwan_dk. the variety here is refreshing and even a bit startling to someone like me who has quite a bit to learn about the music of the early '60s. great collection of familiar hits (I've always had a thing for The Crystals) and more obscure stuff. favorites include Frantoise Hardy, Vinicius de Moraes, Jimmy Soul and the Bob Dylan.
Diverse. Check. Props for including Frantoise.
You have this encapsulation process down pat.
