Comment:
I've got about four or five CD projects I'm trying to juggle right now and out of nowhere, this one fell into place with very little revision from the rough draft. About the songs: 1)Plain out kicks ass. I heard this on a recent trip to Saratoga and instantly fell in love. This was the song that inspired this madness. 2)A song I've had for a while and tried to find it a home. I think it found a nice spot to cuddle. 3)A song I used WAY back that I have a soft spot for--call it a guilty pleasure, I don't care. This is the album version and has a cool Talking Heads sample that fits quite nicely. 4)I fell in love with Bj÷rk via this song in 1992. This was due to fit into an abortive project that collapsed under its own weight. I'm glad it was able to be pulled from the wreckage. 5)A cool song. 6)From Elektra Records' "Rubaiyat" 7)From the "Batman Forever" soundtrack. The only Brandy song I will probably ever own, and another that I've tried to find a place for. 8)It's Gorillaz. With Shaun Ryder. Flawless. 9)Works well here as a change of pace/breather. 10)Another song from LJ was to have been featured (Water Your Garden), but after test listenings, I was compelled to opt for this one. A tough call, but I think for the mood, I chose correctly. 11)Ever since I saw "Trainspotting", I can't listen to this song the same--either the Blondie original or this version. 12)Another same-artist/different song issue. I was going to use "Round & Round" because I've been trying unsuccessfully for the past, oh, SEVENTEEN YEARS, to put in a mix, but my kids just started playing soccer, the symmetry of Keith Allen on the same mix with his daughter, and the fact that my friend in England who is getting this mix will be wonderfully annoyed. 13)A late addition, but one that fits snuggly. 14)Cool Tom Tom song. 15)I bought this CD at Target for 50 cents. Money well spent. 16)The last song to make the cut. I was a few minutes short and scrambling to fill it. Had considered several Talking Heads songs through the process, but couldn't make it work until I got to the end and I needed a three-minute song with a groove. Alas, serendipity. 17)Yet another song I've been trying to work in for a while...there seems to be a lot of that going around. 18)Heard this song a few weeks ago on a pre-Mesh tape I made in the early 90's and remembered how cool and trippy this song was. This had to be the closer from day one. Now what am I going to do? Mesh 90.
Feedback:
Love the Lily Allen track.
DJ Shadow, BAD and Sugarcubes makes this mix for me! I like this Brandy track too.
