Comment:

I'm a huge fan of the book. So naturally, given the potent literary and musical elements imbedded there, I longed for a compilation that suits it.

This one has been brewing in my mind for years, but I felt it needed some more substance; this is the manifestation of it where I experiment with allowing Marianelli's score to provide that substance, though in reorganized form.

I'm not entirely happy with the pieces by David J; points for devotion and taste, but it's a little campier and cheaper than I'd like, I've been considering finding some people to help produce these myself. Same with the Peregrine Gray stuff -- good effort, but the readings could be better, and they're near impossible to find too. If anyone knows of any really good performances of "Jerusalem", "Land of Do-As-You-Please", "The Vicious Cabaret", "Songs From The Kitty Kat Keller", or "The Second Coming", please let me know.

I debated whether to add songs like Cry Me A River, Bird Guhrl, and I Found A Reason into the mix (as it were). I hesitated mainly because they weren't referential to the book, they were just tossed into the movie for a certain mood or somesuch. But after reading the book yet again with those songs in mind, I was able to find instances where they would fit in nicely -- the dance scene, the inheritance-leaving, Evey's decision before midnight.

My favorite tracks on this list are the Jane's Addiction cover, and the final three tracks -- particularly Faith And The Muse's rendition of "Frater Ave Atque Vale" which is gorgeous. And I love ending on the tolling of twelve.

This is and should be a very different set of songs from the movie soundtrack. (Thus the reason I'm still not fully pleased with using score bits, though it does work all right.)

I'd love to hear your comments...
