Comment:
A festive mix to commemorate both my one year anniversary here at AOTM (which I had completely forgotten about!) and to celebrate the advent of spring, my second favorite season, currently in full bloom over here in Western Australia. It's been a great year and the whole community has been truly fantastic. If it wasn't for AOTM I doubt I would have had the drive to finish many of the mixes that I now own, but the desire to share music with people from all across the world has given me a true motivation to create. So a big thanks to everyone who has traded with me or commented on any one of my mixes over the past year! With this mix I wanted to create something a little more accessible than usual, something bright, poppy, psychedelic, and just plain fun. The cover art uses paintings from the outsider artist Henry Darger, whose vivid and childlike imagination produced an array of whimsical and exquisite worlds. You can read about him and view a collection of his paintings here, here, and here. Interestingly, his work was also the inspiration for the cover art found on Animal Collective's 2005 album "Feels" (highly recommended if you haven't heard it already, by the way!)
The last artist on this mix is unsigned and someone I met through the aforementioned band. He draws a measure of inspiration from them and many other unique artists. You can listen to a couple of his songs here.
Download at the top right link. Cheers!
Feedback:
This is tremendous. Beautiful presentation, with inspirational and informative notes, splendid cover art and a link to the mix. -- Now that's what this whole AOTM thing is about!Happy Anniversary.
Looks lovely. Great Super Furries, Akron/Family, Style Council, Grizzly Bear, Stereolab and BML picks. I will download and check out the rest. Happy Anniversary.
Wow, I guess I've served a year on here as well! Marvelous looking mix, anxious to hear it later.
Hey, have you seen that documentary on Darger? It's pretty great.
looks splendiferous & wild!
Do you know what -- this sounds even better than I anticipated -- extremely well crafted. Thanks and kudos all round.
I'm back again. The thing is I'm loving this mix. I'm making it my official "favourite" this week. Let me thank you at least once more for making it downloadable.
Looks great- lots of sweet choices and lush cover art. I could see the aim of the mix before I read yr notes even!
Gorgeous. And happy anniversary--it's great to have mixers like you around.
This is fabulous. Bright, poppy and fun mission accomplished. Congrats on the year.
Bonne Anniversaire! Thanks for the link (I still wish I could do that).really enjoying what I've heard so far and also know a few of the others (Guillemots thanks to French Connection).Funnily enough (apart from Ramadan) it feels like Spring here in Dubai since we are now able to venture outdoors again - so the positive vibes are appreciated.good stuff and good cover
Happy Anniversary. Any mix that starts off with XTC is a good thing. Keep them coming.
Fabulous anniversary mix; Lord how quickly time passs eh!
Congrats on Making it a year. It was my anniversary a couple of weeks back, but it passed me by. I'll have to post a mix on my 2nd anniversary to make up for that. I'm counting the days.... Great mix btw, Guillemots & Stereolab choices in particular. I shall give this a listen to aquaint myself with some of the others.
Seeing a few first anniversary mixes recently reminds me of some of the quality mixing talent, and great community members, that have joined AOTM in the past year. Thanks for joining. We need a volunteer to teach gobi how to upload his mixes.
Beautiful GambleOn! Happiest of anniversaries to you!
The segues on this mix are stunning. You are the master of transitions, GambleOn! There are some songs on this mix I don't care for (H÷lderlin, for example), but they fit so well in the mix that I totally accept them.
There are some beautiful instrumentals, too. I absolutely love Laliya. Great, upbeat, sparkling music, with just the right touch of didgeridoo. I checked out their website, and the other tracks on their album sound wonderful, too. Hard to believe that this CD is not available in the US. And the
wolves howling are a nice touch.
This is a mix for repeated listen.

Loving how everything flows together. You're a fantastic contributor here... hope to hear more quality mixes.
Happy anniversary darling! Looks great from Grass on down.
Finally listened to this tonight, and well let's just say stick around for another few years GambleOn, Wonderful.
Excellent listen and nine thumbs up for the cover. Harvey Darger is one of the strangest stories amongst all my favorite eccentrics.
listened to this one last night and again this morning. very nice. especially like the opener, Sheepdog, H÷lderlin and numbers 7 to 9. much was new to these ears; thanks for the download.
I also listened to this, this morning. Three thumbs up from me ( why do they laugh? ). I really enjoyed the H÷lderlin track, which was completely new to me, along with the closing 4 or 5, all brilliant. I look forward to your next mix...
Something "bright, poppy, psychedelic, and just plain fun"? You succeeded with flying colors! This was a pure joy to hear, thanks for including an upload of it. It seemed to transform the room into something more... otherworldly. And yes, I second your recommendation of "Feels" - Grass was one of my top favorites from 2005.
OMFG, Stereolab?!!? It has been a long, long, long time.
Nice collection of old and new friends alike.
