Comment:

"This is dangerous" - Or at least that is what The Prodigy keep telling me. The strange thing is...I think that they are right.

This particular mix was conceived in a very non-profound fashion. There was no sudden revelation, no ray of light in a sky shrouded in darkness. I was simply talking on the phone. During my conversation I had left my music on in the background with the volume down - faintly, in between the chatter I picked up traces of Daft Punk - hypnotic as ever and I decided that I had to make a new mix.

I have been wanting to make a mix like this for a while - a high tempo, foot tapping, hypnotic, beat riddled monster which begs to be played.

In one of my off, image infused moments whilst crafting this particular mix I found myself in front of a hospital bed with an unseen patient - there I was, white coat and all, staring uncontrollably at the the heart rate monitor - beep beep beep - thud thud thud. It's here - this mix ebbs and flows. It has bass and it sure has beats. It even contains some moments of tranquil beauty - a space in which we can all shake off the coil, float around for a brief moment and ponder what was and what is...and then mainly get back to the bass and the everlasting beat.

"It's the first day, of the rest of your life". Thank you Brian Molko.

Look, I really don't care if anyone questions my objectivity (perhaps I do, else why mention it) -- if I had no inkling of who "Yomma" was, and no connection to him whatsoever, my views would be the same -- oh what the flip! Sod it! here goes:I fuckin' love this mix! I was going to go to bed and listen to it after a good hard kip. I did not -- good decision. It kicks so much ass, there can be but a few widely scattered and well hidden asses it will not kick. It rocks! It rolls! It winds and grinds! It pushes and pulls. It smashes you in the face and caresses you afterwards. The notes are scene-settingly fabulous! The hospital image is bang on! You know something has happened to you, you have no idea what it is, but you feel the hold-tight comfort of hospital corners, you feel the pulsing throb of life inside and out, you know it's going to be fine, you know it's going to be good, you know it's going to be bloody great!Bollocks to all the angst ridden hotchpotch that abounds us. This is a DB9 of a mix. A DB9 on an Italian mountain road in the dark. High beam, full volume, smashing through the gears, hard on the gas, heavy on the brakes, screaming joy in every sinew, quick glances at the strobing sea far below. The only destination is ahead!Furthermore, this mix has capital letters, intelligent notes that set the scene, it's downloadable, it's staggeringly well "mixed" and makes no bones about the process. If this isn't "pure" mixing, then what is?This has been a fantastic week on AOTM. So much quality, so much great music, so much variety. Many regular mixers sharing their best with us. In a week that heralds a triumphal return from jonpoi and a work of art from sammyg; this mix is the cool snow-cap to top it all.If you don't like this, please accept my condolences. Objectivity? I should coco!

The Nomates fella is right of course. This is great stuff mate. The song selection, the flow, the strange voice from yesteryear setting the scene and then onwards into seamless transitions from kick off to final whistle. I loved every minute of it. Splendid.

It did take me a listen (okay, two) to really get behind what I was hearing, and I really get off on it! Thanks for the file share, eagerly looking forward to your next mix.
