Comment:

FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 1955 YOU COULD:
 Eat at a McDonald's restaurant
 Visit Disneyland
 Use a microwave oven
Wear clothing made of Dacron polyester
Watch "Captain Kangaroo" and "The Mickey Mouse Club" on television

CELEBRITIES BORN IN 1955 INCLUDE:
 Bill Gates
 Bruce Willis
 Billy Bob Thornton

OTHER 1955 HEADLINES:

Rosa Parks refuses to give up her seat on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama -- a major event in the Civil Rights movement.

Brooklyn Dodgers win the World Series -- for the first and only time.

Sugar Ray Robinson wins the World Boxing Championship.

 Albert Einstein dies.

This is the Earliest year The Wonder Years will explore ( we aim to cover every year between '55 & '85 ). We had a great time compiling this one, and learnt a bit along the way also...
Fancy a quiz? Four easy questions, get them all correct and win some mixes!!
1) Which 'song' makes it's second appearance on a Wonder Years mix here?
2) Which legendary Jazz musician passed away in 1955?
3) Which song on this mix has been a U.K No1 single four times by four different artists?
4) Who is the crooner pictured with the Fontane Sisters on the cover?(top right).... Good Luck! SG

Nice mix. It happens to be the year I was born. And the day I was born (April 15th) was the day McDonald's opened their first burger joint. Like especially tracks 11, 15, 17, 20, 24, 26, & 28. I did a mix of music from '55 a while back. If anybody is interested it is titled What they Played When I Was Born (April 1955).

My birth year as well, great mix...

NOMATES, impressive!

What Dodger pitcher finally beat the Yankees in the decisive WS game that year, where is he from and what was his uniform number?

I'll send a door prize... (lol)

Well now, Feat, old bean; that would be Johnny Podres. Johnny was born in Witherbee, New York; and whilst he was playing for the "Brooklyn" Dodgers he wore the uniform number 45. The real question is -- what's the name of the guy on first base?

just listened to this at work. wonderful. but why stop at '55? I was wondering what gems you'd come up with for 1949, for example. my favorites here are 27 25 23 13 10 5 & 4.

Wonderful stuff and have come to expect nothing less from this series - incidentally, I always love your trivia and events round-up! I think my favourite part of this is the end stretch, from the Johnny Cash - but it's all great.
