Comment:

Sampling. It's been going on for years, only the technology has changed. The first 4 tracks are straight sample based tracks on disc 1 with the source tracks on disc 2. Tracks 5-8 are songs based on other songs that don't use sampling. Again, source tracks on disc 2. Tracks 9-12 are cover versions that are practically new songs, originals on disc 2. Tracks 13 & 14 are examples of artists rewriting their own songs, 13 has slighttly different lyrics, the original (disc 2) went unreleased until the Bootleg Series came out, 14 Mike Love objected to the original lyrics (disc 2) so new lyrics were written for the Pet Sounds version. 15 Broken Arrow opens with what would now be called a sample of Mr Soul. 16 Realising the resemblance to the k. d. lang track a deal was cut and composer credits shared. As for the title of this mix, although the word genius does get over used, and I'm not bestowing it here, I thought this Oscar Wilde quote made a perfect title for this mix.

Indeed. Most impressive. And Oscar needs to become more familiar in the current lexicon...

Excellent theme, well executed. And more importantly of course, as mixes are for listening too, full of great tracks. It's funny that Beck sampled 'Them' on more than one occasion for the album 'Odelay' Jackass samples their version of 'It's All over Now Baby Blue'. Shame there's no room for Frank Black's 'Hang On To Your Ego' but anyway once again, quality through & through...
