Comment:

I made this one for a guy on a messageboard I post on, in exchange for a homemade CD of his band - going rate was manufacturing costs or "something pretty", so I hope this qualifies as the latter. The two of us share both a deep and unconditional love for twee indie pop stuff and a somewhat self-conscious attitude towards that love, so this kind of mix just seemed like the best way to go. We're both fond of handclaps and crappy endings and other tiny imperfections, which would explain the somewhat unconventional choice of a closer. Also somewhat unconventional is my classification of John Cale (as well as some others on this mix) as "twee indie pop stuff", but what can I say - the song fits perfectly here, and this was never intended as a genre-specific mix anyway, and besides, it never hurts to put a serious contender for "best song ever" on a mix, does it?
Also, for those keeping track, by "twee" I basically mean "puts a smile on my face", and yes, I am completely ignoring all the people who claim that there is an actual, well-defined subgenre of indie pop called twee pop, and no, I am not going to get into an argument about this ever again, kthxbye.
Cover artwork and title ripped off from Charlemagne Palestine's album Music for Big Ears, which, incidentally, is neither twee nor indie pop.
You can listen to this here should you so desire, though you should know that this was the first time I tried doing the whole cross-fading thing, so don't say I didn't warn you.

I'm a twee nut myself Alex and I'm especially pleased with your inclusions of Sodastream and Darren Hanlon not to mention the noisy pop perfection of Put the Freaks Up Front. Downloading now. Thanks for the link.

Alexandra, you have a case re: Best Song Ever.. Paris 1919 has to be up there. Actually, in my life long quest to find the perfect 'Pop' song I probably stand by 'Jumping Fences', it's so great I cannot listen to it once ( I have to rewind as soon as it's finished ). As for the rest? MOTW for me....

Yeah, ditto Sammy with the "Jumping Fences" comment... perfection. I like it better than any Beatles, Beach Boys and Kinks track! Great mix... will listen to it tomorrow.

Actually, that is what "twee" means in a certain obscure American dialect whose primary speakers are fast defecting to English.

This looks wonderful. I have Virginia Jetzt playing now - great song.

I really like what I know here, particularly the OTC, Chills and Minus 5 selections. I trust from your fine musical taste that the rest is quite good, as well. And yes, I plan to come up with my trade requests soon.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention my favorite song of all here, the John Cale track (as noted by Sam below).

Good grief: handclaps, pop goodness - what is not to like, as I believe the kids are saying these days. Quite quite excellent.

It may be twee, but it'll do for me.Big cheesy grin music -- most admirable.

Oh yeah, this is absolutely my kind of mix, being a bit of a twee type myself! I absolutely love the Radio Dept, and that Long Winters -> Andrew Bird stretch is wonderful. Well done you!

This mix looks so fun! Although no Tullycraft?:(of "Fuck me I'm Twee" fame). I can't believe others admit to loving admit to liking that cheesy-ass Cinnamon song. Thank you for showing me I'm not alone...

Update to my previous comment: I have now learned that "twee" is "two" in Dutch, and that happens to be the normal number of ears. Took me a year and a half, but I have finally figured out the pun. ;-)
