Stuck in dumb amazement like a dog who's told to levitate
Comment:
For my friend and soon-to-be almost neighbour (can you refer to someone as your neighbour if they don't even live in the same country? well, alright then.) Maria, who was nice enough to give me shelter twice in the last few months, first while I was applying for graduate school not far from her, then while I was looking for a place to stay before starting graduate school not far from her. All this and she expected nothing in return - well, except that she could use my salary (my copious salary as a graduate student in the social sciences, that is) to finance her plans of a farm/zoo hybrid. Hence the theme of the mix. Title by Mr. Pernice.Feedback:
Last week I managed to levitate a gerbil by use of foot though if said object only stays in the air for a few seconds is that technically levitation? Some very good stuff here like the Kinks and Magnetic Fields. BTW no gerbils were harmed during this post or before or after it.
this is quite wonderful - one of the best takes i've seen on this theme - the mag fields, nina nastasia, john hurt, mountain goats & kinks tracks stand out, but there's tons of great tunes here
This looks so frikkin' good. Marking for upload goodness, later.
Never disappointing Alex. You've included my 9th favourite song of all time but I'm not telling ya which!
ok its 15 :P
I'm stuck in dumb amazement... This looks fantastic, Alex. Expect a post -listen comment tomorrow...
The Hurt & Kinks are standout tracks for me.
Number Nine!
A lot of critters here. Christine F gets her subjects from Olivier's catalog. Nice mix.
Actually, Christine Fellow gets her subjects from poems by Julio Cortßzar (well, the lyrics to this song, anyway, I think she's pretty good about coming up with them herselves otherwise). Ground owls are mysteriously missing from Messiaen's catalogue anyway, although he does mimic the tawny owl. Also missing from the Messian catalogue are the the doves mentioned in the Vollmar track and the crows sungs about by De Kift, who in turn took their literary inspiration from a short story by Wolfgang Borchert). I think that was enough geekiness for one comment? Good to get a life-sign from you again, Ed, hope you're doing well.
This looks lovely, as always. Special props for using Nina Nastasia on a mix--she's totally underrepresented around these parts. (Happy holidays, btw.)
Beautiful. Here's to all things copious!
Wow, lucky friend. This is a fantastic mix you made.
That Kinks song has been showing up on a lot of my mixes lately! It is a great one.
Neat-o! Happy holidays!
I really dig this. Happy Holidays!
The Pernice Brothers and Weakerthans are favorites of mine and, I suspect, PETA activists as well. Might have been a suitable soundtrack for "Evan Almighty."
