Comment:
A sequel to Talent Borrows, Genius Steals. It follows more or less the same format. 1-4 are sample based tracks, source tracks on disc 2. 5-6 On disc 1 are based on 5-6 on disc 2. 7-8 On disc 1 are based on 7-8 on disc 2 and resulted in legal action. 9-11 Are examples of artists rewriting thier own songs, in the case of #11 Willie Dixon did the writing. The Costello one came about after the Oswald in the lyric (English fascist leader Oswald Moseley) was mistaken for Lee Harvey Oswald in the US and rewrote the first verse. This version is on the Live At The El Mocambo promo/bootleg which has since been given a legitamite release. 12-14 Are covers that drastically rearrange the song. 15 On disc 1 an example of a good record being made from a sample of a bad record (Dido's Thank You) and on disc 2 an example of a good record that has been sampled on a bad record (Robbie Williams Millenium). In my opinion. I thought the title of this mix was pretty damn smart until I Googled it to get a cover image. I've kept it because (a) I like it and (b) the fact that it's not as original as I thought is in keeping with the spirit of this mix.
Feedback:
absolutely fantastic. ive toyed with these idea for several years, and have made several attempts, and was never happy with the resulting playlists. THIS is the playlist i wish i had come up with, a combination of all the great ideas.
everytime i attempt a mix such as this -- & i do, often -- i'm always disappointed, & i always trash it before i even finish. but this, this my friend, you have hit the jackpot on. terrific
Brilliant work. Very cool. I'd completely forgot about the Whatever - Idiot Song Steal. Excellent mix mate..
very cool, and what a great variety.
This mix and its earlier companion is tremendous. The idea, the chosen songs, the explanatory notes and the titles are brilliant. I would happily trade for them. But for now I'll get cracking on a poor re-creation thereof. I'm nicking five stars from somewhere and giving them to this one.
