Comment:
Hi, folks--Rob Conroy here. Picking a category for this mix was tough--is it a theme mix or an alt-DJ mix? The answer is a little of both, as this mix is the long-awaited (well, long awaited by me, anyway) collaboration between SwankQueen and myself, designed to be a wintry (but emphatically NOT Christmas) mix in honor of the Book Corner--Niagara Falls, NY's fantastic & long-serving independent bookstore (and quite frankly one of the greatest bookstores that I've ever frequented). It's got an unbelievably huge selection of cheap used books of all stripes, a large thrift store-style album section in the basement, and expertly hand-picked new books on the "main" floor. Jeff the proprietor loved SwankExpress' last mix (From Paul's Boutique to Amy's Place), so we felt it was about time to give him his very own mix (SwankQueen had been planning on doing such a thing for some time, but prior to her tape deck crapping out had planned to fill the mix only with tracks culled from albums that she purchased from the Book Corner's basement). The end result isn't an alt-DJ mix in the strict sense of the word, but more a genuinely organic collaboration. Thanks to joey for the Don Byron track. Title to be continued on the *next* installment of the Book Corner's mix series...P.S. from SQ
I think this mix is worthy of The Book Corner, which is the highest praise that I can give to it. Thanks to Rob for his expert fades and selections. Thanks to Uncle L.L. Cool L. for ever filling in the gaps on my wishlist with bountiful CDRs! Love to all!!!
Feedback:
I cannot even express how unbelievably good this looks. The transitions are awsome. Galaxie > TMC > Leonard Cohenand and Sigur Ros > Henryk Gorecki's Symphony # 3 is pure bliss. Add this with way too many highlights to list, and I am left in awe of the mixing abilities of you two. I am begging... please post a link.
great piece of work here
Hot chocolate! Rob will post links this week, he says. Hope you enjoy it!
Wow. Wow. Wow.
sorry for the lack of eloquence, but if this is anywhere near as good as it looks, I have no words for it.

This is gorgeous. a dangerous duo, you two.
Yeah... there's just something about this. I can tell by looking at the titles. Completely wonderful.
i'm just as speechless as the rest -- this is awe-inspiring in its excellence. i'd feel like a parent picking between his children if i were to single out any tracks, but something must said for that rolling stones closer ... & the miles davis ... & the john coltrane ... & the shins ... & the bowie ... & the leonard cohen ... oops, there i go
Just Amazing. A first class mix for the inclusion of Tower Of Song & Svefn-g-Englar alone. But this is all excellent, and I can't WAIT to hear it. Great work guys..
Quite the thing going on....
Songs of Innocence & a Tower of Song! Like a cup of hot chocolate after a day skating on the frozen river . . .
I'm anticipating a great treat.

You have rendered me speechless. But don't get to triumphal, I fear it may only be a temporary affliction. Still, There are many of my acquaintance who will wish to thank you. Meanwhile I shall stare, open-mouthed at this track list -- if I could do "gawping" as well as you do "mixing", this would not be a problem. However, In this instance, your victory is assured. Well done and Happy New Year.
nicely done!
Holy...shit! This looks great, can't wait for a listen.
Tremendous work. Happy New Year.
Fnatastic collaberation between you two. Really interesting mix you guys concocted here.
really beautiful, guys. listend to this at work in halves (uh, the mix was in halves, not I) and it's just gorgeous. The Go-Betweens go incredibly well between the Kevin Volans and Juergen Knieper tracks, then the next three are a real nice set too. I have that Piano Magic disc, but need to pay it some more attention. from Piano Magic to the end of disc 1 is also real nice. I've been collecting some Yoko Ono here and there, but I don't think I have that track yet; I was thinking that it's one of the prettiest things I've heard in a while... and then I was struck by the Henryk Gorecki w/ Dawn Upshaw track! plus there's the Krassimir Kyurkchiyski, Bowie, Vince Guaraldi, Don Byron, Rolling Stones... and of course that particular Sigur Ros song. yes, this comment is probably becoming too long and I'm gushing here, but if I find myself in a bookstore that's playing this fine thing, I may never leave. thanks for sharing it!
What a wonderful gift! I love the sound of the store and your description of the concept behind this whole thing. The Gorecki sandwiched between the Sigur Ros and Le Mystere is beautiful (I love that Gorecki recording in general, incidentally), and the way the whole thing moves is magical. Great work, guys.
Very beautiful and inventive, kids - you're right to be proud of this one. It has mix of the week written all over it. And clearly I need more Gorecki in my life - lovely. Happy New Year to both!
This is wonderful. I'm listening now with a big smile on my face. You two are good for each other (and for us as well!)
Phenomenal effort, much respect to both of you, and a well-earned MOTW!
That is so sweet -- a mix dedicated to a bookstore. Congrats on the mix of the week, and definitely awesome choices!
You can't go wrong with Motor Away.
i am amazed...i am literally amazed....
Guh...did I not comment on this? I guess not. Shits been pretty crazy for me these days, though. Anyways, congrats for MOTW. Totally bummed that I missed this first time around. Super-great stuff, y'all.
Wow, thanks to everyone for the generous comments and to Deja_vu, especially, for being so sweet! I'm just happy to be mixing again, but it's even better to share the results!
Just beautiful. Too many top tunes to mention but the closer on side 2 is my all-time fave Stones track.
Wow, this is gorgeous! Congratulations. (By the way, that's my favorite Unrest song, and I've been on a major Jethro Tull kick lately)
brilliant...something for everyone
wow, I've clearly missed a lot . . . generally lovely, but the go-betweens do it for me . . . .
Y'all did good. Congrats.
This was really cool!
I did get this a bit later than the festive vibe contained within may have intended for but i've a sneaky feeling it'll come out next Xmas time. Beautiful stuff guuys!
