Comment:
Rob Conroy: This is SQ's & my second collaborative mix for her very-soon-to-be 3-year-old nephew, Daniel, who very much wants to be a rock star. In recent months, he's become very attached to his toy guitars and will bang on bongos at the drop of a dime. It's actually pretty adorable. At any rate, he loved his previous mix (particularly "The Banana Splits Theme," "Car Wash" and "Magic Bus"), so I think he'll dig this one, as well. I'm sure that the 'Queen will have more to say, so I'll move along....Note from Auntie: some of these songs were "chosen" by my nephew. There's some tv commercial with "Downtown" on it and he always sings along, and the Blur tune is his favorite from the radio (not surprising, since every kid I've ever been in the room with goes crazy when that song plays). He also wanted "Sympathy for the Devil" because of the "woo woo" stuff, but I just couldn't do it and replaced it with "Monkey Man", although I'll probably cave in for the next installment, to raised eyebrows, I'm sure. Speaking of raised eyebrows, I couldn't resist "Itchycoo Park". (He's too young to know what getting high means. I mean, I heard my babysitter's friend talking about it when I was much older than three and I even looked it up in the Merriam-Webster and couldn't figure it out.) I had to use the Peter Sellers track because he's in the habit of exclaiming, "oh, goodness!"... uhm, James Hill is a ukelele virtuoso and when I first heard his cover of Little Wing I knew I had to have it, so thanks again to my connection at the CBC for that CD! Ditto for the Harbour Symphony, which was recorded live employing tug boats as instruments for the compositions, as Daniel is a typical little boy in that he LOVES all modes of transport! Yay!
Feedback:
May I suggest Barabajagal for the next one; kids LOVE that stuff! This should be required listening for every child.
Looks like a real tickle
if push came to shove, i'd have to say this is even better in execution than the first one - the byrds, blur, kinks, beatles, clash, stones & tom waits tracks are particular inspired & sure to rev any kid interested in music into a frenzy - i'd actually love to give this a spin & bring out the 3 year old in myself - hope this turns into a fruitful series...
This is awesome, Swankers!
Hmmmmm... Itchycoo Park? I don't see "Wheels on the bus" - not sure that Astrid Lally would dig it :-) I would, though.
Great collection for a young kid. I've loved Itchycoo Park since I was at a tender age myself. He's off to a very good musical start with you two as influences.
Marvelous! 1,5,7,9-11,19-23 and 25 all tickle my fancy.
Influence em young I say! My daughter lovesd Hendrix's version of Little Wing but I ain't familiar with this one, The Pet Clarke tune is a personal fave o' mine too.
It's never to early to learn The Byrds, The Kinks, The Beatles, The Clash, Petula Clark, The Small Faces, Tom Waits and Louis Armstrong.
I remember seeing this mix and drooling. Can't see my name on the comments list, so I'm only assuming I frooze for a short while. I love this concept for a mix, especially now as I'm a father of a young 'un. But even beforehand, these are all slices of wonderful pop music..
Froze, I meant. Although frooze is a pretty cool word..:)
Great stuff, again. And as the father of two "tweens," all I can say is mold them while you can, because one morning they wake up and decide everything you like sucks. Which, I suppose, is what I did when I was a kid, too, only I was right, and my kids are wrong, but that goes without saying.
Nice concept...and what Jenergy said.
When I was a kid all my dad played was classical and jazz and my mum owned one Simon and Garfunkel LP which was spun once a year.If I'd heard this while sucking on my toys I would have grown up a more rounded individual rather than the moody potty mouth I have become.I'd have also had a hotline to the future as most of this wasn't around when I was a pram-prisoner.
This is perfect for a child... or me! Great stuff.
That's one lucky fella. Some favourites of mine here and love the Beatles and Millie together (almost)...
Educationally sound! And sounds great.
Nice comp teacher
