Comment:

An interesting spoken word piece by Ken Nordine and the first 18 numbers in the Fibonacci Sequence represented in song. Congratulations to Dead Man for being the first to identify the last tune.
For those of you who are not familiar with it, the Fibonacci sequence is a pattern of numbers formed by adding the two previous numbers to form the next. It is frequently represented in nature (population growth patterns, leaf growth patterns, the spirals in Nautilus shells etc.).
The original problem that Fibonacci investigated (in the year 1202) was about how fast rabbits could breed in ideal circumstances. Suppose a newly-born pair of rabbits, one male, one female, are put in a field. Rabbits are able to mate at the age of one month so that at the end of its second month a female can produce another pair of rabbits. Suppose that our rabbits never die and that the female always produces one new pair (one male, one female) every month from the second month on. The puzzle that Fibonacci posed was...

How many pairs will there be in one year?

At the end of the first month, they mate, but there is still one only 1 pair.
At the end of the second month the female produces a new pair, so now there are 2 pairs of rabbits in the field.
At the end of the third month, the original female produces a second pair, making 3 pairs in all in the field.
At the end of the fourth month, the original female has produced yet another new pair, the female born two months ago produces her first pair also, making 5 pairs. The number of pairs of rabbits in the field at the start of each month is 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, ...
The cover picture is the Fibanacci Vegetable, which grows to this sequence.

Er, I love 3 songs here (7, 8 and 12), detest 7 of them (3-6, 8, 10 and 13), like 2 of the artists but don't know the songs (2 and 11) and am completely unfamiliar with the rest. I'm wondering if the above layout would reflect my like-to-love ratio of your entire record collection... ;-)

We have a Winner!!!! I was pretty amazed that I could cover the first 18 numbers in the Fibanacci sequence with songs available on iTunes. Dead Man wins accolades and a mix of his choice from my posted mixes (you are certainly welcome to this one but it a pretty weird listen.)

this looks a lot of fun but i'm totally confused! The Morricone track I believe is the matrix number given to identify what was probably an out take. I'll never tire of that Brubeck track.

Very cool. You've inspired me to do a Math Rock Mix. Btw, the whole is MUCH greater than the sum of these parts.

What an inspired theme, some great tunes to pull it off, and some truly puzzling transitions (three dog night to metallica to spin doctors?!?)

Extremely original. Extremely. Imagine what the numbers would have been had the guy figured in a little incest....

Well, I wouldn't have guessed the last track in 3.6 million light years. Here's a joke.. There are 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary and those who don't. Well, it always makes me laugh ( a little )

Wow, what an idea! I probably wouldn't care much for the resulting mix, but this is certainly a great concept.

This is as mad as that mad thing that went mad in a very maddening way. I won't even attempt to comprehend what series of mental processes led to this madness. if the mix were to adhere to the inherent aesthetic of the sequence, well, that would enter a whole new galaxy of mad. Who am I to say it has not? Oh, the whole experience is just mad. Hey, perhaps that was your intention. No wait, maybe this is the kind of mix they might make on Vulcan. See, the madness is catching. I'll stop now.

Great concept, I am surprised nobody brought up Dan Brown and his oddly-conceived DaVinci code. I hated the book till I guess that it was all a joke (it always made me think of if John Grisham had minored in art history and gotten a C-average or worse in all those classes). But of course, the first clue in the DVC is the Fibonacci sequence which allows the "Harrison Ford in Tweed" and his "beautiful, yet brilliant" accomplice to open her grandfather's vault. Since the book was a bound screenplay, it worked better as a movie than the written word.

Sammy G's joke is a classic, though!
