1. "Loving you isn't the right thing to do" and I wish I didn't, but I do. 2. Every word in this song - guilt, confusion, plea - speaks to me. 3. "Everyone but you adores me." "When you're not around there's a lonely sound in my soul serenade." 4. "You didn't stand by me, no, not at all. You must explain why this must be. Did you lie when you spoke to me?" 5. We drive home in the rain, listening to this song and I'm miserable and I think you know but don't care, or don't want to care. "I need someone to stand by me...just one time. I don't understand, you're slipping through my hands. I thought by now I'd know where to let go. All I know is here I am, baby, stand by me." 6. And so, each night after those horrible rehearsals, I'd lay in bed listening to Sarah Vaughan until I reached that point where her beauty outweighed my dumb pain. "My days have grown so lonely. For you I pine, for you, dear, only. Why haven't you seen it?...My life a wreck you're making...I'm all for you, body and soul." 7. I'm someone who's probably just in love with being in love. 8. We're theatre kids, and this is the most gorgeous example of that horrible kind of sacrificial, half-asleep backstage devotion. And right now you are "something I despise." 10. Because even angsty people can smile when they hear something as great as this. "I fell in love witchoo the first time I looked into them there" catlike "eyes." 11. I'm definitely lovelorn because of the high Aretha quotient on this mix. We listened to this backstage a few times. I'm a bad masochist. "I hurt myself, I hurt myself." 12. "You know I want your lovin'. Honey, why're you so hard?" 13. So the verses are plain lame on this song, but the chorus is a pop masterpiece. "It's only love and that is all. Why do I feel the way I do?" 14. He's a Spanish student and I tend to get very melodramatic when I'm in pain. 15. The mood of this is perfect for rainy lovelorn resignation. "How can I go home with nothing to say? I know you're going to look at me that way...You will take the heavy stuff and you will drive the car and I'll look out the window and make jokes about the way things are." 16. This whole song is me, but let me choose the very best - "Soon you'd leave me, off you would go in the mist of day, never, never to know how I loved you - if I loved you."
