Comment:

Another peek at the tcontrolled chaos inside my head. Plenty of good stuff from 2006 with some new stuff and a little bit of this and a little bit of that from yesteryear. Two tracks off of The Holmes Brother's State of Grace album because it is the best album I have heard this year. The first three tracks have a gospel/soul groove going and it's great to hear how well the Rascals track from 1967 fits in with the much newer first two tracks. One of my joys of mixing is blending old and new together. Thank you Valis for hipping me to Rockfour. The final two tracks were put together to show the dilema of cover versions. I love The Smithereens, The Beatles and The Beatles song "It Won't Be Long" but this cover does nothing to enhance the song. On the other hand The Holmes Brothers' cover of the Elvis Costello song "(What's So Funny 'Bout Peace, Love and Understanding" takes a great song and pumps new life into the song. It gives me goose bumps and makes it my definitive version on the song. I challenge you to play the two versions back to back! R.I.P. Denny Doherty.

Oh, so it looks like I get to be the first person to be all "witty" (and by that I mean "obvious") and say that, yes, I am indeed feeling this one! Great.

Love the Kashmere Stage Band track, got the Shins and the Good, the Bad etc on order and now you've also piqued my interest in the Holmes Bros disc. Didn't realize the Radiators had a new release last year, they're a fav of mine live. Nice one all around.

This looks very, very cool, my friend. I just heard about Denny's passing the other day (I'm not sure when it happened) and I was actually sort of sad, although I'm not a huge M & P fan...

It's not too early to be planning the best of '07 mix y'know.

Looks like a great set of picks, Mr. Zen. Like others here, I dig that new Shins album a lot.

Nicely done: like the 9-12 stretch particularly. I feel it, and indeed also, for some reason, taste it. Mmmminty fresh.
