Comment:

Proof that I am 7 years old, approximately. I finally got my Christmas present yesterday (two marble run construction sets), and here's the soundtrack for playing with it. A toys/kids theme runs through a lot of these songs, sometimes lyrically, sometimes musically, e.g. melodies nicked from videogames, toys employed as musical instruments, Game Boy music, that sort of thing. The Erik Satie track is mostly featured here because I couldn't resist the temptation of putting this back-to-back with the Diskettes song (which is basically the tweeest indie pop song in the history of the universe, set to the melody of Satie's piece), although it is of course awesome in its own right. As for John Cale, one of my favourite evenings ever was the one I spent at my friend's place in Berlin, playing with her marble run while listening to the used vinyl copy of Paris 1919 I had just bought for the very first time. As for the rest, the main intention was to have this mix take as many twists and turns as a good marble track. I think it kind of worked, although I got a little distracted during the test listens by building the track you see below (I promise my next project isn't going to block up the speakers!), so it's hard to say.

Title ("Back to my Villa Kunterbunt") paraphrased from the Kinderzimmer Productions song, Villa Kunterbunt being the German name for Pippi Longstocking's house.

Oh grow up Alex! Hahaha I'm just PLAYING with ya. Ahemmm who's the kid now Barry? Anyway this looks as clever as anything you've done and that's saying something. Highlights for me are 1,5,6,10,13,18,20 & 21. Great gift, great music, great fun.

this looks fantastic, lots to love here -- you don't know how to make a bad mix, do you?

This is too cool! The Diskettes turned "GymnopTdies" into "Gymnasium"? And you know that 7 year olds who listen repeatedly to Puff the Magic Dragon can't possibly miss the drug reference, in fact they are probably already puffing.
I know very little Dutch, but I do know that "Lied voor een kind dat bang is in het donker" does not mean "click here for link," so evidently something is, ahem, missing.

Ed: I am a responsible 7-year old who would never, ever construct a marble track while stoned. Just think of all the accidents that could happen! No, no, I'd never do such a thing. Never.
And yeah, you're right about that (it means "Song for a child which is scared in the dark"). I'll try to work on the download thing, but can't promise it's going to happen in the next few days.

This looks incredible, Alex. I'd love to hear this. I share Barry's enthusiasm for the tracks he mentioned ( those I know, anyway! )...

Right up my alley (in the N.E of England from whence I hail, marbles are called alleys! But don't ask me why?)

I am only slightly behind in my listening and finally caught up with this one. It is a ton of fun! Toys, games and kids, very innovatively done.

As expected it was really cool to hear the two "Gyms" in a row, and other highlights were Preston School, Mathletes, and Suburban Kids. Keep rolling those marbles, Alex.
