Comment:

I was totally overcome on hearing the Blues for the first time, I was 14yrs old, and an older boy visited our Youth Club with some blues compilations tucked under his arm. I was already familiar with Elvis, and the Beatles had just broken through, followed swiftly by the Stones, The Who, The Animals, The Yardbirds, Spencer Davies Group, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Peter Green, Dave Gilmour etc. But to hear the artists who had originated the music was so jaw-droppingly exciting.

Within a year I first heard Bob Dylan when a friend left me 2 reel to reel tapes full of his early albums to listen to, after a party at my house. In the meantime, in order to be different to all my friends I declared The Zombies were the best band in the world, collecting all of their early releases, and even seeing them live.

My tastes evolved along with the music being made and it moved from undeniably raw to quite sophisticated throughout the 60's. I even got to spend a day watching the Beatles making their Magical Mystery Tour film along with hundreds of other excited kids hoping to be used as extras.

At the end of the decade Kath and I got married and our tastes merged to a degree. Pre-recorded cassettes and home taping then began to dominate my acquisition of fresh music. I have boxes full of concerts and sessions recorded from radio...
