Comment:

How can a 13-track mix be such a bear to put together? Oh, the complications which emerged... I had a general idea way back of what kind of mix I wanted to come up with: kind of a stoner disc that I could enjoy with current vice (endorphins from marathon training), but getting there was filled with difficulties and distractions. I knew I wanted a more complete Spacemen Family Reunion (after pairing Spectrum and Spiritualized on last year's "le roi de coeur"), and I tried to fill it with songs I could get for free from a Pop Tarts promotion on Sony's SonicStage. Sadly, the entire Spacemen 3 catalog was tabbed as "explicit" and therefore unavailable. Even worse, I was forced (sob, sob) to buy Spacemen 3's "Singles" collection to fill the void, and even then, I went back and forth on which track to go with. Also, quite traumatically, I went out and FINALLY bought "Loveless" (sorry, I had never gotten around to it before). Lastly, I was quite devastated to learn that the track, which for years I had known as "Mesh," was actually titled "Cries And Whispers" (I don't get out much). How awful! Do I need to change my username now??? Anyway, the title comes from a rec-league soccer team some friends of mine had several years ago: "Astra" being the brand name of someone's toaster, and "Shahish" being an intentional misspelling of "Hashish." The cover depicts part of the Crab Nebula, by the way. Mixing never used to be this complicated.... Cries And Whispers 94, I mean Mesh 94.

Despite all difficulties faced, it seems worth it. Very early-90s, I like. For me though, personally, Loveless was just one of those albums that never really made an impression! It seemed like what it was was important somehow, but the songs didn't stick. I've gone back and listened to it so many times trying to find something I can latch onto, but with no avail. Nevertheless! The whole mix is very obviously thought-through :)

Cool mix, Mesh C&W. Sony won't let you redeem Pop Tarts for explicit tracks? Bummer.

This is perfect from top to bottom. I might put this one together on my ipod because I'm pretty sure that I have every song on this mix and I really want to hear this.

my experience is that Loveless is music you're supposed to float through rather than "latch on" to, really. it's not full of catchy, sing-along choruses, that's for sure. great-looking mix, from head to foot.

Cool mix, that has me gazing at my shoes. New Order have a song called Mesh, so you should keep the username ;)
