Comment:
So once again I find myself alone on a Friday night. My wife is attending an all-night bachelorette party and my small circle of friends are still in jail. Even the Ghost Whisperer is a repeat. After discovering a couple bottles of Kahlua White Russians behind a decaying head of lettuce in the fridge, I naturally found myself back on AOTM, where everybody knows your name. After checking out some mixes (and posting several irritating comments on Orchid's recent submissions), I decided that I'd join the party and contribute something to the site. This one was made for my pal Matt Hinrichs, who you might see here every now and then (his last mix was a tribute to Giorgio Moroder, which I forgot to comment on - sorry Matt). He's one of my favorite mix recipients, since we both have a passion for the kind of tunes seen above. It's a hodgepodge of funk, electropop, ska, lounge and anything else that I could stuff into the blender. The cover and name of the mix is blatantly stolen from one of my favorite children's books, published in 1966. It's about a bored curb-sitter named Chester, who laments that nothing ever happens on his block. In the meantime, all hell breaks loose behind him: house fires, robberies, medical emergencies, lightning strikes, etc. There's probably a political message in there somewhere.
Feedback:
Always gonna love a CD with the Clientele on it. And "1 2 3 4" is probably the first song I've used in a while on a mix that was also performed on The Tonight Show. But hey, a great song's a great song even if it's not absurdly obscure.
christ this is good - i'd be beyond content on a block where nothing happens if i had this mix to keep me company. been really digging the clientele lately...
Always happy to see a Moe on the board, ye know... You are one of THE best this site has to offer. Now that is high praise.
excellent stuff - from the title, to the cover and (IMHO) especially to Julie (she still whispers in my ear) . . .
Nice mix, Moe!
another fantastic one, also in the love of that hodgepodge of funk, electropop, ska, lounge and anything else
The Mrs. should get out more often....
Looks excellent Moe. I'm glad I am not the only one using Scissor Sisters tracks on mixes.
Tose covers of Cowsills and Fifth Dimension have got to be "joys" to behold.
Any chance you will be adding something by LINK Wray or LINKin Park?

*Those.
Wow, this rules!
This looks incredible! Love the cover art as well.
Awesome Moe. That Sly song is just plain killer, and I'm surprised you don't see it more often. Whole mix looks great.
Life is Groovy when you're listening to a mix made by King Moe. I'm glad nothing happens on your block, it gives you more time to make mixes such as this. Glad to see you waving the flag for MIKA, I believe it's just you & me though. And that Cowsills cover I need to hear NOW!!
Ahh! When Smithers is away, eh? I imagine this to be an extraordinary mix, though my imagination ain't what it used to be. I do know that I love the Supremes, Sly, Winehouse, Special A.K.A., Feist, Gruff Rhys and Bobby Sherman tracks. Curb-sitting is a thankless job I tell ya.
I keep tellimg Gobi, "Julie whispers in my ear." Try hanging out in my neck of the woods to truly understand what it is to live where nothing ever happens! Which is why I hang out round this site so much, it keeps me sane. Thanking you for coming up with yet another blinding mix mon ami.
Quite nice, indeed!
This looks great, Moe. You should be wifeless, friendless and bored more often. ;-)
Leave it to Moe to turn boredom into a creative exercise! Go with Gruff! (The whole thing is very Moe-esque...)
I love that Special AKA song, I've gotta check out Amy Winehouse's cover. Lookin' swell!
Working on a mix that includes Scissor Sisters. Look for it later than sooner. I agree with Mister Conroy.
Lovely. Simply, lovely.
it's always a treat to find Julie London, Scissor Sisters and Vanity 6 together on a mix. well done! and I think the book's message is that folks who are generally bored need to turn around more often.
Very ecclectic and wondorous. My jaw has officially dropped.
Lots to love here but the Supremes, Sly, Scissors, Winehouse and that final threesome rock!
Hey! This is a fantastic mix, and once again it's an honor having it made for lil ol me. I HAVE to find that children's book!!
It's all happening at Moe's place, all the time & all at once, & Life IS groovy! (It would be even groovier if I could get my mitts on a copy of this - if I can trade you anything for it, just say the word!)
Hey, thanks for the copy of this Moe-Mix! As I suspected all along, there is plenty happening on your block. My favorite track: "The Night of Love." Song title I wished I had thought of: "Bite the Beat." Most cringe-inducing cover: "Stoned Soul Picnic." Great stuff, and a bit funkier than your usual - a new direction? Thanks again.
