Comment:
Thanks to everyone who contributed to the 4th volume of a wonderful concept.Share a song that you currently have [personally] in heavy rotation or summot.
This 2-disc mixtacularr contains 31 tracks of some of the greatest stuff ever made hidden!!!
Locating and coercing PapaMaceo1 (formerly of Rallo Johnson) and g.a.b. l@bs out of mix-retirement was one of many hi-lites here. Leif also makes a limited appearance. Kudos to lanhamyodel for providing an uplifting track that is more effective than fluoxetine.Funnyman Red Skelton takes a serious turn as an elder recalls The Pledge before the last two states and the words: "under God" were added. With the intro sliced, diced 'n served chilled over Amy Winehouse beats; you would be correct if you guessed that this audio was sampled from a forthcoming Beat Girls album."Wouldn't it be a pity if someone said it was a prayer and that would be eliminated from schools too?" This ongoing debate is current over in America.
Without music life would be a mistake. ~Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche
Feedback:
Nice work ZoT! Now that is what I call AOTM-ing.
Totally cool looking, even if I have to confess that I've never heard of 95% of this. Yes, we're all showing off our predilections for the deliberately obscure -- guilty, folks! (Special kudos on Radio Sally's contribution, a fine track from an underappreciated album.)
i, too, confess to being in the dark to most of this - however, what i know is not only great but tremendous, & it's always a pleasure to contribute & see everyone coming together for a mix. kudos to everyone involved, & especially to you zoe for doing such a great job compiling this - you really went all out, wonderful job.
Yes, we certainly are a purposefully obscure bunch, aren't we? I don't even recognize the song I contributed ;) Super job compiling this, Zoe -- and thanks for making it available to download. Great to see many of my favorite mixers represented, including the reclusive Thomas Mohr. We need you back on the playing field, old chum.
Fantastic job Zoe, Marc's right we probably do deliberately use these mixes as a platform to demonstrate the obscure. So obscure that I know precious little here (I'd even completely forgotten what my contribution was, so it was a great surprise to finally be reminded) Can't wait to feast my ears on this.
I really don't know much here, but what a great concept. Awesome!
Although my track might be considered obscure, I did not choose it for this quality. It's just a track from the most recent CD I traded on LaLa. The way I understood it was to contribute a track of music I presently listen to; a new discovery. It might be nice to change the concept a bit and have a given theme or genre for future collaborations like this.
Thanks for the nice work, Zoe.
Thanks for the nice work, Zoe.
Thanks for setting the stage, Zoe (and the reminder email) ;-]
This looks wonderful. I do have a 3-part ambient mix (somewhere) in the works that's been shelved simply due to the speed of life. I'll hopefully have it up, with links, by year's end. Thanks for the inclusion.
Happy Summer, everyone!

My understanding, was like lanhamyodel's, "to contribute a track of music I presently listen to". My track may or may not be obscure (it was released May 29, 2007 so maybe few have yet hear it) but my point in submitting it was because I think the song is "Amazing" and want people to enjoy it as much as I do.Thank you Zoe, listening to the mix is musical nirvana.
erm yep, don't know most of this . . . given the calibre of the contributors, however, I am sure that it is ace !good job pulling it together and nagging your chosen contributors to submit on time . . . .
This looks great! Thanks for including me. I'll be downloading now so as to catch up with what I don't know here...
Hmm, my pick of Rod Stewart's version of "I'm Not Missing You at All" not obscure enough for you, huh :-? Or maybe I just dreamt that I sent that to you...Anyway, this looks wonderful which I'd expect from such a stellar line-up. Glad you were able to get the labs outta his Jersey hovel and back on the board. Can't wait to give this a listen.
As with others, I know very little here, but a brilliant concept and one definitely worthy of investigation.
Gawd Gobi you're such a downer! Fine lookin' mix all round!
Looks GREAT, I promise to part of the next one!!
Hey Curtis Burns,
Thanks for your comments on the AOTM compilation.
Did you really send over the Rod Stewart track?
I did a search mail for your name and Rod Stewart track to no avail. And, I rarely delete anything.
Or, perhaps it's that ruins_curbs dry humour.

well, there are TWO tracks on here I know,
but one was a gimmie, so I still have a ways to go. Considering the sources though, I'm going to expand my horizons. Thanks for the impetus, the organizing, compiling, snazzy packaging & the giving back!

I went for sad n sappy because I've been feeling a bit sad n sappy, but I think it's quite a touching song, despite it being the most mainstream of the bunch. Heck, I hope I've posted enough obscure stuff here to still be included in the "deliberately obscure" club. ; )
A surprise packet of great tunes, and expertly strung together at that. I'm proud to have been a part of it. Thanks for the inclusion.
Ack! Amazing, Z! Although one cannot help but wonder WHY, as this is ... from us all ... t'aint more votes'n what thar b!
Looking forward to giving this box of delights a listen. Lots I don't know, but the FC - Joker - Mixxer run stands out for now...
We love the Nietzsche quote and the new Napolitano track. We love listening to the 2nd half of this mix first. Yes, we have no bananas and no, we do have our quirks. Thanks for allowing us to participate.
Always illuminating, and just slightly different from the usual NTWICM tracklist. Thanks for making me a part of this, and for putting it all together so finely.
Lovely, fantastic, and whatever else adjective fits! This is awesome work. I love The Sorrows through King Khan & BBQ stretch and Buck 65 to The Wedding Present stretch especially.
hmm what happened to my track, but this is good stuff anyway
Thanks for the work that went into this... I especially liked tracks 4, 7, 10, & 13 on side one & 1, 3 (yes me; I know, shameless), 9, 10, 11 & 12 on side two. Sorry, I can't get into all kinds of music (I'm SO Retro). In an alternate Universe I would probably be an executive VP for a record company or radio station and be responsible for picking the next big thing (but only if it had some retro aspect to it or if I had that kind of job 40 years ago; the only problem is, I was 12 years old back then).Enough digression... Wonderful job!
played this musical monster at work this morning. it's terrific! and filled with variety. g.a.b. l@bs and Gobi's unusual picks have been blended in seamlessly, well done. lots of favorites, including "Treat Me Like a Dog," "By Tomorrow," "Where She Goes at Night," "Amazing," "The One," "Sweet Talk" and that crazy/scary Red Skelton recording. oh, and "The Centaur," of course. good lord.
Thanks for hosting Zoe! You throw quite a virtual party.
Looks great. Glad you got me involved, and glad to have the pentultimate track on the mix! Hope someone out there liked the pick.
i find the deliberately obscure conversation very interesting. i wouldn't know if my pick is obscure or not. perhaps scott miller is a local treasure and not known to people outside of east tennessee but as a member of the v-roys he was on steve earle's e squared label which i thought received a fair amount of publicity. i always thought my musical exposure was wide ranging until hemizen hipped me to this site and i met all of you and realized how little i know. i think some of the obscurity of the mix is unintentional and a product of how wide the musical range is and how difficult to understand exactly what is commonly known. i am familiar with most of the artists but know few of the actual songs. all i know is that i am glad this forum exists. the education and comraderie is enriching. thanks all!
