Comment:

"There are relapses in the diseases of the mind as in those of the body; what we call a cure is often no more than an intermission or change of disease." Frantois de la Rochefoucauld (French classical author, leading exponent of the Maxime, 1613-1680)

Thanks to ginatron for Paul Simon's "Allergies" and Pop Kulcher for Neil Young's "Ambulance Blues"

[RELAPSE - FULL MIX!]
LONDON, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- The Rev. Chad Varah, who founded the anti-suicide group Samaritans at his London church, has died at the age of 95.

A spokesman for the group said that Varah passed away in his sleep Thursday at a hospital in Basingstoke, The Telegraph reported.

Varah, vicar of St. Stephen's Walbrook, founded the group after conducting the funeral of a girl who killed herself at the age of 13. There are now 202 Samaritans groups in Britain and Ireland with thousands of volunteers working on telephone hotlines, and the group has spread around the world.

With five children to support on a meager church salary in the 1940s, Varah developed a sideline in children's comic strips. He was one of the creators of the strip "Dan Dare," about a space traveler.

Prince Charles is patron of the Samaritans in Britain.

"Chad Varah was an utterly remarkable man who founded an organisation which has saved the lives of countless people since 1953," he said. "He was an outstanding humanitarian and a great Briton."

"Dan Dare doesn't know it, he doesn't know it, he doesn't know it, but I liked the mekon". That was the Elton track I thought you'd use...but it still looks pretty twisted, Sister.
