Comment:
Another rare guest DJ slot; this time I was invited by Marcelo/Juan to spin a set at the final Catfight in Sacramento. It was a great night, packed to the gills with people, and so of course, my set was clumsy and imprecise... I was a bit clumsy, but the CDRs containing all the tunes I wanted to choose from (I generally like to bring about twice as many tunes as I'll have time to spin) did not seem to like the CD players very much, so there were a couple of hiccups... But the songs were good, and I made a commemorative compilation CD of the tunes and gave it away to various people in the weeks following... I made the comps by using CDArchitect, there was no blending/mixing per se, but CDArchitect lets you precisely arrange the transitions between tracks with perfect timing, quick crossfades, etc. So the CDs really had a great professional flow and sound. Again, I was more concerned with the quality of the tunes themselves than with being clever. I know, two of the tunes are also on the previous mix I posted (the Club Touched 10 April 2005 mix). But trust me, when I do DJ semi-regularly, I never play mostly the same predictable stuff every week, like many other DJs at local clubs will do... Sure, maybe there will sometime be a couple of tunes that might make it from one set to another, but that's the exception rather than the rule. And maybe one person was at both the April 2005 set and the January 2006 set; 9 months is enough of an interval to prevent the two songs in common between the sets from sounding predictable or repetitive.I wish I still had this compilation, but the files died with my previous C-drive last year. I still have all the individual tracks on my F-drive though, and I still have CDArchitect, so I suppose I can recreate the CD.
