Comment:
This site really needs to add a lot more genres to select from the "Category" drop-down list. And they need to be more specific in a lot of cases. Some of those categories are so vague. Like "Jazz" for instance. There's a HUGE difference between early swing jazz and stuff like Miles Davis. Well anyway, this compilation is pretty much a rockabilly compilation, but it starts off with stuff on the western swing side of things, goes through some vintage style stuff, an affectionate pastiche or two, then goes to some modern stuff, harder stuff, some neo-rockabilly, some psychobilly, some "garageabilly," and plenty of silly fun. I made a conscious effort to avoid any self-referential tunes (a lot of rockabilly is like that, with songs ABOUT rockabilly). This mix was slightly different (by one or two songs) when I first made it several years ago, but this is the current/final version. I would love to DJ at a rockabilly/psychobilly night someplace. Or a swing/western swing night. Or a combination of those genres with extra stuff thrown in (like the old "Night on the Rocks" at Connections in Clifton, NJ). There are a lot of people who like to keep them seperate (for instance, dedicated swing dancers who don't ever want to hear rockabilly or even jump blues at a swing club), and I could go either way (because I love it all) but I would never follow a Benny Goodman tune with a Nekromantics tune, for instance. But I could easily make a smooth transition via at least about a half dozen songs that evolve from one style to the other. Maybe a night could start out with all swing and related stuff, and then for the final hour change over to rockabilly stuff and the more crazy/silly stuff, to let everyone know that the night's almost over. I don't know, just an idea.Feedback:
Thanks! Yeah, rockabilly has gone through so many stages and branches of evolution. And too many rockabilly fans have a very singular notion of what it's all about, and will even fashion themselves into living cliches of "rockabilly" with their wardrobe and lifestyle. I'd love to trade, but you have like 817924872 mixes posted... I wouldn't know where to begin!
If I had to make this mix over again I'd probably trade out a few tunes/artists for others... Actually, I'd probably expand it into a two-disc set.

Umm, I want this. Can we trade?
Sure, I just have to locate all the tracks because I don't have the mix CD anymore... I should have most of the tunes on my hard drive though... Look for me on MySpace, my username there is lunarpollen...
