Comment:
"I'm talking with a tight red sweaterI'm feelin' like Eddie Vedder
Only twice as cool when she starts winkin'
I'm just so easily led when the little head does the thinkin'."
What do Bob Dylan, John Hiatt and I have in common? None of us can carry a tune. All similarities end there. I first started getting into Hiatt about the time he was in a short time band (one album, one tour) call Little Village. A super group it was, featuring Hiatt, Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe and Jim Keltner. His songs have been covered by such artists as John Doe, Linda Ronstadt, Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Bonnie Raitt, Emmylou Harris, Rosanne Cash, Willie Nelson, well you get the idea. It is never easy making a single artist mix and this is no exception. Think of this as a starter set.
"So how far do we have to go to hear that Pirate Radio?
One song that could steal our hearts
Before they turn into silver and gold
Well I'm drivin' my car real slow and my baby wants to know
When we gonna hear our song on that Pirate Radio?
One star in the sky so I named it Otis Redding
Or maybe Marvin Gaye lookin' for his Tammi Terrell
There ain't no mountain high enough to stop this wedding
Rollin' out of Memphis to Detroit I can hear those bells."
Feedback:
looking swell. long time I heard anything from him now
I know very little here. Tell a lie I know none. Must check him out...
ditto sammy - although he has been used on many a mixes that i've received, so i'm definitely interest, as i've liked all the songs that i've heard...
i squeezed 19 songs on my hiatt mix, i win. having only 7 in common shows what a difficult selection process this was. well done!
those of you who haven't checked out mr hiatt need to do so now.

As Sammy says, aware of name and that's it????
Love John Hiatt. Period.
Excellent. I have been a huge fan ever since Bring the Family. One of the premier songwriters and a helluva performer. Forget the mousse and the hairspray sugar
We don't need none of that
Just a little dab'll do ya, girl,
Beneath a pork pie hat ...

Little Village was a great failed experiment, little village, mofo. My personal favorite is Shredding the Document: You know what my father said
Well I'm not going to tell you
Some words that I try to live by
It's none of your goddamn business!
Five stars for anything Hiatt!!! Ry Cooder does know what he's talking about!

Love Hiatt and a great live show. Nicely done but "Have a Little Faith in Me" and "Master of Disaster" would have had to make mine.
If anyone has kids (or is a kid at heart) John Hiatt steals the Country Bears movie, along with Bonnie Raitt and Don Henley, speaking to Mark's Have a little faith in me. Who would have thought a good movie would be made of a Disney ride?
Do you subscribe to the theory that "Drive South" is a double entendre?
Little Village is now my Must Find Disc Of The Year... MAN, what a line-up!!!!
Your choices rock! They have a haunting sound-like a voice in the back of your head...
Massive!
Thanks for the shout out...One of my favorite shows was seeing Little Village in NYC around '91-'92.
Hiatt is one skilled writer/singer and this is a great compilation.
