Comment:
I am so geeked.... My older brother was able to get my other brothers and I gigs as security for The Police concert at Churchill Downs next weekend. The Police were my first musical love, but I never got a chance to see them live. I DID see Sting in '85 (my first concert), but I've always been a little envious of people I knew who saw Sting AND Andy AND Stewart when they last toured together. In honor of the event, and as a token of gratitude, I made this mix for my brother who, while never quite getting my fanaticism with The Police (he's a Kansas/Boston man), he appreciates the value of getting into music. I make no claim to this being a "greatest hits" package, but rather a fantasy setlist of songs I'd like to hear played on July 14. I included some obvious hits and kept pretty close to the studio albums for his sake (only four non-album tracks), and it's weighed pretty heavily on the earlier albums, with only one song from Synchronicity (and that was one of the last additions). Is the "30th Anniversary Reunion Tour" crass commercialism? Sure, but even the cynic in me is taking a backseat to the long since gone 13-year old who is getting a chance to do what he missed out on many years ago... Mesh 96.
Feedback:
I saw them in '81 and it was a helluva show. Saw Sting solo and it was also good but felt more like a jazz show. You hit most of my faves here. Enjoy the show.
Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic was one of the songs that first got me hooked on listening to pop radio. I was a young addict in '81/'82 - and Spirits In the Material World was one of the first 45s I ever bought. hey, where's that one!? great set, hope you had fun.
