Comment:
First mix I've made in quite a while. Lessons learned:1. This is not like cycling; you (or least I) do forget how it works. Still, I think (hope) the result is not too embarrassing. In fact, I rather like it. You can make up your own mind by clicking here.
2. Once you (or at least I) decide to put a banjo track on a mix, be prepared to devote the remaining space on the mix to banjos (and a tiple), because it is going to happen. It's a natural law, I believe. Luckily, there can never be too many banjos!
Feedback:
there can never be too many banjos, only too few - glad to have you back, alex, you were sorely missed
Well I know the Ghost track and that's about it! & you're too modest mon ami I'm sure you still know how to ride!
Banjos get a thumbs up, as does the William Elliott Whitmore track.
You know, it doesn't matter how many songs one hears in their lifetime there will still be at least 16 more that you've never heard. A prime example here. Thank the lord for downloadable links is all I can say. And thank the lord for ofthaltned...
Killer! Now that you mention it, pizzicato violins and banjos go perfect together. IN fact, how did you resist a segue from BTla Bart=k to BTla Fleck?
yikes ! I know the names of a couple of bands (which is good)- I cannot make the banjo leap in my mind (which is bad) and I cannot download to find out more (which is really frustrating).
Haha, now some of these comments have me worried that there might not be enough banjos on here! I made Mixxer's observation about pizzicato violins and banjos going well together as I was looking for something to follow up that BTla Bart=k movement, so the banjos only start with the North Sea track (the following two don't feature banjos either, although Askew's tiple sure sounds good among those banjos). In other words, it's mostly the last few tracks that feature a lot of banjos. More banjos next time, then?
This looks great, Ms. 'ned. It's been waaaaaay too long since we've seen you 'round these parts. And, bizarrely enough, I almost used that exact same Ed Askew song (how often do you hear THAT?) on my last mix.
A beaut. Great morning listening.
Brilliant mix, brilliant to see you back too. It's funny, my next mix if I ever finish it has an abundance of banjos and the occasional ukele so I totally relate to Lesson 2. So very very true. Mix of the week in my eyes Alexandra.
Hey, Hey!!! Congrats for MoTW! Much deserved...I'm giving this another listen, right now...and, unashamedly, stealing from it... (aesthetically speaking, that is)
ha The guy frpm library tapes and I use to play soccer on sundays ;)
Congrats for MoTW and welcome baaaa-aack!
Note to BTla Fleck (or some other young whipper snapper), I would love to hear the pizzicato section of BTla Bart=k's String Quartet No. 4 done with banjos. And I can't wait to hear this mix and congratulations on a well-deserved MOTW selection.
Wow, looks fantastic!!!
Really digging the Fraser & Debolt cover, courtesy of Meg Baird. And thanks for making it available for download.
Congratulations on MOTW! Super well done.
Congrats!!! Always great to see William Elliott Whitmore on a mix.
Well done. Like the Ghost, Shirley & Ed Askew (I used that song on a mix too so I guess that makes three of us). Congrats on MOTW!
William Elliott Whitmore was a big hit in the office today (when I was playing your mix, that is. he didn't actually stop by) and I liked the James Blackshaw and the 5/6/7 songs, especially "Preach." very nice, and a fine pick for Mix o' the Week.
Yup, this is what a MOTW looks like! Congrats. Use your winnings to buy your very own banjo.
Congrats ofthaldned! (Good call Barrydali!)
Awesome. Much deserved kudos! Love the second track.
I know none of this, but I am already knocked out listening to it. I agree with Moe!
This of kind of like a Curtis Burns mix ... and we know what a high standard that is!
Wonderful! Congrats. I was a little concerned that possibly there could be such a thing as too many banjos but, pleasantly, this turned out not to be the case. As musicgnome says, it makes great morning listening :)
i'll have to check this out. i love that you've included Will E Whitmore. :)
wow, it's weird to come across an experimental mix on here that resembles something that i'd put together. very cool.
I love this so much
