Comment:
Until this weekend, the only Pyschobilly bands I was familiar with were The Reverend horton Heat, Southern Culture on the Skids and the Legendary Shack Shakers. A friend lent me "The Psychobilly Sickness" documentary and after a couple of nights of researching and downloading I put together this compilation and learned the following (apologies if this is all common knowledge but it's all new to me and this is my attempt at a primer.)Psychobilly is a marriage of Punk and Rockabilly that began officially with the Meteors in London in the early 80's. The first mention of the term Psychobilly was in Johnny Cash's '76 opener here, referring to the most interesting Cadillac I am aware of. The Rockabilly revival of the late 70's and early 80's was clearly a precursor to the movement and many of the bands cite the Stray Cats as an influence. The Cramps are actually predecessors to the Meteors but while they don't accept the Psychobilly classification, they are related and another strong influence. The Meteors maintain that they are still the only pure Psychobilly band in existance.
The original Scene faded in England and the States in the 90s but remained strong in Japan, Germany and the Netherlands and has resurfaced throughout Europe and the Americas. The common themes of death, horror movies and hot rods are consistant throughout, as are the trademark Upright Bass, excessive Tatoos and extreme hairstyles.
Title is from the Psychobilly equivalent of the Mosh Pit ("Wrecking" is slam dancing with punches instead of pushes) and is also the name of the websight where I got alot of my information. Thanks to French Connection for the Legendary Shack Shakers' tune. Link if you dare.

Feedback:
can't say i'm familiar with much more than the johnny cash opener (though a few tracks are familiar), however this is a truly interesting genre, even if it never really caught hold of my ears - i'll have to give it a spin, mark
Perfect, Mark, looking forward to it, I never had much respect for the Stray Cats (pop retro-hits of my youth), but seeing Lee and Slim Jim backing Carl Perkins with George, Ringo, Clapton made me reconsider them. Something still sounds a little disgenuine in Brian Setzer's retro-addictions. T-Bone Walker, he ain't.
Down and dirty. Wonderful!
Holy Cow, this has got me very excited indeed. It's late here, but I aint sleeping till this has come through, and will be first to blast out at Chez Sammy in the morning..
Whoa! I would never have imagined this fine mix coming from you, but your liner notes explain it. I'll be linking, indeed.
awesome!
I DARE
Very little that I know here, so thanks for the education!
cooooool
Haven't thought 'bout this in years, but yeah, those early 80's cats were pretty cool. I highly recommend the comps "Blood on the Cats" and "Revenge of the Killer Pussies". Looking forward to hearing this, especially the later period stuff that I missed out on the first time 'round.
Not normally my thang, but I will certainly download and give it due attention. Cheers Mark.
Really looking forward to hearing this - so much good stuff. Rock it!
Like this mix, I love psychobilly, and I LOVE music documentaries!!!!
Thanks for the link... I'm gonna have to get educated on this genre as well.
After listening to this I am ready to rumble!
That LSS track is amongst some top company here, I'm with Barry here but am betting Gobi would drool over this!
Death, horror, and hot rods? Punches instead of pushes? Apparently I have been missing all the fun.
Nice research here, Mark.
Nice research here, Mark.
Very nice indeed.
I LOVE Psychobilly ! Always have done, always will do . . . . I reckon you could probably go back earlier than the 80s or even 70s for the first Psycho stuff, but I take your point. Great primer !
Great mix here.... the kind of music where you need to clean off in the bath after listening. One of my favorite Cramps songs, to boot.
This is even better than I had guessed, thanks for a great download!
Dig it, daddy!
Dig it, daddy!
Have had an insanely busy fall & winter, but I'm finally getting the chance to listen to this and MY GOD! It kicks serious ass. I'd never heard the Termites before, but I'm now obsessed and have spent an absurd amount of time on their (not updated in, like a decade) website.
