Comment:
I have finally gotten around to compile one more installment - this third volume picks up where the two others left off. It's remarkable how many modern Spector soundalikes there are out there!!! And I guess I've managed to pull off the only compilation in the history of music where Ronan Keating sits fairly comfortably alongside Jarvis Cocker and Belle & Sebastian. :-DRemember, I'm always on the look-out for more stuff in this genre so any recommendations, either posted here or sent via e-mail, would be highly welcomed.
The final track, Starsailor's majestic 'Silence is Easy' was of course produced by the mono madman himself but since it fits the theme so well I thought it should be included. I've heard many Wall of Sound devotees dismiss it as a weak showing for Spector's talent and a missed opportunity for him to flex his muscles yet again, but I'll have to say that I really, really, really love it. It must be those soft chimes that surface mid-way through the song that gets me every time I hear it.
On a final note, I wonder why Spector didn't sue Cocker over 'Don't Let Him Waste your Time' - it is a blatant rip-off of the Spector-written & produced 'Only You Know' that Dion sang in the 70s. And may I say, a good one at that.
The search for more songs continues....
Back to Mono and over and out.
Feedback:
haha, yeah, i agree about "don't let him waste your time." sneaky. good mix!
Spector-cular stuff! I'm a big fan of this series. Good to see the Malibus, Brother Kite, Lucky Soul, Shins -- just to name a few. Please check out my similar Pet Soundalikes series. Will post volume 9 here before the summer's over.
Another fantastic installment. Very cool.
wondering why there was no court proceedings against Cocker. perhaps, Spector felt it: "don't let him waste your time".
I'll never tire of seeing these. Another good 'un.
