Comment:

A long overdue Recent Aquisitions mix. I haven't posted in awhile but have been gathering tunes and have a half dozen mixes in progress. Most of these are 2007 releases, the balance are tunes I knew but didn't own.
A couple of notes. I was a fan of Marc Cohn back when his self-titled debut came out (1991) but haven'r cared for anything he has put out since. (He hasn't released anything in 9 years and was suffering from writer's block.) 2 years ago he was shot in the head during an attempted car-jacking in Colorado and walked out of the hospital the next day. While recuperating from the shock, he watched the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and immediately started writing. His new disc, "Join The Parade" was the result. It is by far his best work, is my favorite release of the year and is highly recommended.
Brian Joens is an Iowa singer / songwriter who has just released his 6th CD "Quarter Moon View" which I also recommend. I get to watch him perform a couple times a month in a local restaurant.
Lot's of old friends here. The 1-2 pairing was intentional, the 16-17 pairing was accidental. Title from Devendra Banhart. Link for mellow good times.

Kid Creole still rates as my fave all time live performance way back when . . . good to see they/he still appears on mixes.

I saw Kid Creole live in about 1983. It was a long gig and quite wore me out despite my energetic youth. I've recently got into Rilo Kiley but most of the songs on here I don't know. Time to do some investigative work.

Very nice. Patti Scialfa's Play It As It Lays is one of my favorite albums this year.

I like the Devendra and the Low tracks, love Levon as a musical figure (although I hear his voice is shot from throat cancer), and I'd like to hear this Brian Joens fella. The rest, well.... ;-)

Lots to like here. I was listening to Levon Helm's new CD Dirt Farmer this weekend. Levon does sound different but his roughed up voice is great on these gritty songs.

Lots of stuff to check out, thanks. How do you feel about that new Ween album?

I like the new Ween, it's a little disjointed, even for them, but it has some high-lights.

The Book Of Job was of course written over several centuries by numerous authors. Originally a Sumerian text, it was repeatedly revised and re-written by a multitude of Hebrew scholars.
