Comment:
In response to Mahdishain's opening salvo on his attemp to define his Desert Island Favorite Songs list (boy is that going to be a long process if you do this for all of your favorite artists!), I have compiled my own top songs from Waits 20 legitimate albums (no compilations or unauthorised releases.) As expected, this is next to impossible and the choices will probably change hourly. I've listed mine in order of release. Thanks for the inspiration, Tom.Feedback:
That's why Tom Waits single artist mixes are always so interesting - everyone has different favorites. Now I'm off to work on mine!
another great waits compilation - see my comment on tom's likeminded mix for further insight. i will say, however, that i LOVE "down there by the train" (another contender for my top favorite waits tune), & that tracks 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10 & 12 are all contenders for my personal top 20-30 favorite waits tracks, showing that we have pretty similar taste in the man...
We'd definitely have some different picks in our respective top 20s, but just about every song here is great. I'm especially partial to 1, 5-7, and 9-10.
Love track 6, very appropraiate for this time of year of course. Love Clap Hands ( like many, Rain Dogs is my favourite Waits album ). Burma Shave, though, has been my favourite track of his for a long while. Just beautiful...
Interesting and like Rob I love the mix but mine Tom Waits mix overlaps your's by only three tracks.
i am convinced Tom Waits will go into the rock hall of fame (for what that's worth) and there is no better arguement then these mixes. overlap seems to run a mere 25% but no one objects to the inclusion of any songs. the amount of great songs he has written is astounding. i expect to see piano and christmas card on a lot to favorite tom mixes as they are early career defining tunes, that whole underbelly of society thing that he was known for. everybody bring on more. i can enjoy tom mixes all day long.
Tom Waits: always been a mystery to me. I could never get into him nor could I ever get into Captain Beefheart. And this week you and Rob post mixes by the two! I'm gonna have to give him another listen.
Wouldn't describe myself as a fan but occasionally when I'm in the mood Monsieur Waits hits the spot.
