Comment:

120 minutes long. My first mix of 2008, and how fitting as this mix is all about the number 8. It is volume 8 of VGM, it features only music from the 8-bit NES and Game Boy, and it has a total of 80 tracks on it. This was all done on purpose, it's not an end of the world prophecy coming true in case you were wondering. Each side features the music from 8 games plus music from The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening blankets both sides. I'd say about half the tracks on here have probably never been heard by the video game music layman, but they are just as good as their Super Marioed and Zeldified counterparts. Link's Awakening was the first Zelda game for Game Boy and it is still one of the best games every released for any Game Boy system. The haunting Ballad of the Wind Fish is repeated on here 4 times, twice on each side. The fourth appeareance is simply titled Ending and features the Wind Fishes wail, I surge with adrenaline everytime I hear it. The American genius David Wise of Donkey Kong Country fame is on here with Nightmare and Beetlejuice. The Nightmare music is without doubt the moodiest and scariest ever composed for the NES. (Yes that is Freddy on the cover of 8-bit with his "powerglove" from Freddy's Dead). The Tetris music on here is from the bestselling Game Boy release, C type is still as classic as ever. The Guardian Legend while not an obscure game has never really been given its props for having a great soundtrack. It has without a doubt one of the top 10 NES scores. As a side note, Sewers BGM from Fester's Quest (yes the frogs are from Blaster Master) and Sewers from Beetlejuice mirror each other on both sides, this happened by accident, I found it funny. I buy many expensive Japan only game soundtrack cds, but for this mix almost all the tracks were downloaded from here, it is safe and free: ( http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/a ) If you want to download A Nightmare On Elm Street look under R (rare). If the world ever becomes a post apocalyptic mess, I will have a boombox covered with samurai swords constantly playing Outside BGM from Festers Quest while I twirl it down the street killing all in my path, this should give you an idea of the music and what I'm talking about: (http://youtube.com/watch?v=fgi3Y1if0xw ) Please visit this link for Guardian Legend medley:
( http://youtube.com/watch?v=KA00N6r2Tt8 ) Visit this link for a remix of the great Elm Street track from Nightmare on Elm Street. This is a really fun remix: ( http://youtube.com/watch?v=TJddSgKwvSk ) Finally for anyone that just needs to hear The Moon: (http://youtube.com/watch?v=G_80PQ543rM )

Great idea. I was always a big fan of the music for the NES game Equinox (or "Solstice" as it was known over here).

An upload would be sweet.
