The Cough Drop Mix (Low, Deep, and Downright Soulful)
Comment:
I was listening to my mp3 player and I had a run of low gravely voices. So I started thinking of other singers with low gravely voices. Here is the result. I cut a lot of songs but I wanted it to fit on one CD. There were a lot more.Anyway. The link to the download is located at the first song. I love comments.

Feedback:
This looks excellent! Lots of my favorites.
I dig this concept. DJ Karen Adams approved!
I am so burning this for my dad. He'll absolutely love it. Oh, and "Poor Boy" pleases me.
many, many favorites and a few i don't like at all.
Track 1 = One of the finest cover versions ever. Love 5,6,9,12 and of course 15-17. A few unknowns, so many thanks for the download..
Hard to imagine any of these guys as little kids before their voices changed, isn't it?
Mark Petrucelli did something along these lines in his excellent Vocal Chords Like Steel Bridge Cables, maybe you & he should do a trade & consolidate a gravelly double-CD ?

Thanks for the link Joey. I had not seen that one since I am new here. I guess you can't do without Barry White on a mix with low voices.
This is pretty nice.
cool !
Very nice. Lame comment, I realize. (I don't spend enough time with music like this. And, that is yet another shortcoming of mine. Thx for the nudge.)
Sweet and low. I've made five mixes worth of high scraggily voices (see my Kids Rock! series), so this is quite refreshing -- though I've often wanted to dump the singer from the Crash Test Dummies off a bridge.
Oops - thought I'd commented on this already! Way too many great choices to list, but I especially like the Waits and Howlin' Wolf tracks. And kudos for the R.L. too.
Wow! I'm really loving this. great assortment of tunes. A little Bobbie Gentry would go really well here.

Oh, man, there's a lot of stuff on here high on my list of loves. And there's a few on here that make me want to gag (Conway Twitty? Crash Test Dummies? UGH!), which is interesting; apparently "gravely voiced" isn't enough for me. :) But it's surely a good start considering the ones I love.
