Comment:

240 minutes, yes you read that right. Two tapes. Each 2 hours long. Creating possibly the longest album on planet earth. Since this is the 10th album anniversary of VGM I wanted to do something special, but I promise you and especially myself right now that I will never create another album like this again. I had to buy a $30 japanese Castlevania cd, I spent well over a full month, possibly 50 hours plus researching and downloading. I spent another week editing and/or deleting tracks and constructing this album. I will post the other part up in a day or so. The spine is the first NES Castlevania logo redone by me. The front picture is the flaming unicorn logo from U.N Squadron. The inner picture is the original art for the cover of Castlevania III cut in half. The other half is the inner picture of the second album. This album celebrates video gaming in its most basic form. Run and gun, side scrolling, whip snapping, in your face action. From space to earth, past to present, VGM 10 covers it all. All 3 NES Castlevania games are here. Kinuyo Yamashita was a genius pioneering female composer who was the first to compose the music for Castlevania (she was credited in the US game as James Banana, no lie). Her work stands the test of time. CASTLEVANIA - WICKED CHILD ( http://youtube.com/watch?v=5bTAdrq6leQNES ) Battletoads, arcade Double Dragon, and SNES Battletoads & Double Dragon: The Ultimate Team tag team the first part of this double album. David Wise does all the Battletoad music, the same wizard that brought you the beloved DKC music and my personal fav, Nightmare on Elm Street for NES. NES Contra and SNES Contra III blister and burn both sides of album 1. One of the greatest battle themes of all time is here in the form of Battle from Super Bomberman. Do yourself a favor and listen to this whole thing, the last track is Battle: SUPER BOMBERMAN ( http://youtube.com/watch?v=8mo50X1UqCE ) Two of the greatest side scrollers are here. Aladdin for SNES, and Batman for NES. Batman is not as good a game as Aladdin, but Streets of Desolation is one of THE best pieces of gaming music still to this day: STREETS OF DESOLATION ( http://youtube.com/watch?v=UCA_msAEn8k ) The last title I will go into here is U.N. Squadron. It is not that well known. It was an arcade game made by Capcom released in 1989. A very good port for SNES was released in 1991 with excellent music. The music on this album is from the arcade game (also used arcade music for Sunset Riders). U.N. Squadron itself is a solid flying right scrolling shooter that lets you buy upgrades as you porgress. The game is unbeleivably hard, but fun. The really remarkable aspect about this game is that every, every, once more, every single music track in the game is great, there is not one clunker. It was brutal picking the best 5 tracks. FRONT LINE BASE ( http://youtube.com/watch?v=U67wY9Z17sc&feature=related )
PROJECT 4 FORTRESS ( http://youtube.com/watch?v=V9e7i9m9GjU ) Please check out part 2 when I upload it soon, and please rate and comment and celebrate the 10 album anniversary of VGM!!! There will be some hot downloading links in the second part.

This looks like a ton of hard work and obviously it has payed off in a big way. A highlight for me would have to be Kinuyo Yamashita's "Wicked Child". I would absolutely love to hear this but alas, no link to be had.
