Comment:

mix made for my oldest and best friend jay, who lives far away on the west coast these days and just became a father a while ago (scary). i love that guy but his musical tastes are a bit underdeveloped. in general, he thinks most rap is "too violent" and isn't adventurous enough to give groups like cannibal ox or aesop rock a chance. i remember him getting a bit irritated with me when we were kids because i'd talk him into buying stuff like the first ultramagnetic mc's record when i couldn't scrape up the cash for it. no sir, not very curious about what's out there. i therefore had to stick to the obvious stuff i know he'd relate to while sneaking in some old skool gems that might take him back (especially "robocop" - he always was a sucker for that cheesy vocoder shit). he flipped over the j5 release i sent him a while ago, so i included some stuff along those lines for his commute to work. the young mc track makes me retch, but i know he'll be happy to hear it again. what can i say? hopefully some of it'll get his head bobbing. cover courtesy of dojo magazine.

You rock the party teapin! The beat! The rhyme! The noise! I still have all my De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest and Wee Papa Girls albums, as well as the 7A3, True Mathematics and the Jungle Brothers. I can't say that I play them that much, but they're too good to get rid if.

Having kids does indeed change the amount of hip-hop that gets played around the house. This looks great Mr. Pin. I'll file this in my memory bank for our next swap installment.
