Comment:
posted a little early, as i have to work out some kind of problem with my burner, but i think i'll get everything squared away pretty soon. this was a tough theme mix (namely, songs with vocoder/robotic/computer-ish vocals) proposed by menghsindy for trading purposes. she already had a good amount of stuff lined up, so i laid off the kraftwerk angle and went for a bit of that old school hip hop flava instead, along with some kitschy weirdness from bruce haack. the mc stephen hawking is actually more than just somebody making use of hawking's dectalk vocoder over naughty by nature's "opp" - the lyrics are actually pretty clever and, of course, the chorus is obvious but funny (you down wit entropy? yeah you know me!). the chicks on speed inclusion are a little dubious, but they definitely fit into the mix nicely and have at least a tiny bit of manipulated vocals in them. i probably missed some obvious ones, but that's okay. she already had "fitter, happier" so there's no need to point that one out to me...Feedback:
Looks great teapin. The only thing missing is Joe Walsh's "Rocky Mountain Way," but that could potentially ruin the whole mix.
there's always "fitter happier," or anything by pissing blood, but all in all this is a terribly awful and horrifying/really good idea for a theme, and a great follow-through.
This is definitely intriguing, teapin. If I knew more of the artists, I'd have something more constructive to say (in theory, at least)...
teapin has just joined the ranks of CASETTA, lo-fi jr and rob conroy in the "god i wish i could spend a day with their record collection" club. good work!
amen to that, brother
Ha ha, what a great idea. Why nothing off The Boredoms' Vision Creation Newsun? There's definitely a few songs (tracks 6 and 9, I think) that have vocoderized sounding vocals and would probably fit in pretty well in here somewhere. That's pretty immaterial in light of the general fantasticity of this thoug.
randy, you are fucking brilliant i had completely overlooked that boredoms album! i gotta put that in somewhere.
Cool shit.
I'm only familiar with 1/4 of these, but I'm absolutely in awe of the theme and the finished product! I tip my helmet...
"Warm leatherette, Domanitrix Sleeps tonight, anything by Anne Clark, Situation by Yaz, "electric avenue", Japanese Telecom, Beautiful Place out in the Country.... so many places to go on this one, but I think you got it covered as is.
Great idea. My only suggested inclusion -- for camp value, if nothing else -- is the computer-vocaled version of "She's Leaving Home" that appeared in the hilariously dreadful Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band movie. The song sounds troublingly similar to ELO ...
