Comment:

well, maybe more abstract than experimental. this was actually prompted by a critical need to get stuff off my hard drive (thus the title), rather than a desire to put a huge set of mixes together. spring cleaning in february, basically. i know that the more intelligent thing to do would be to post each volume separately, but i did them all at once and like the way they build on each other and hang together. disc one is mostly ambient tones and humming currents, culminating in the glacial but awesome alvin lucier piece (45 minutes long! make sure you pack a lunch). disc two is experimental like so-serious-they're-funny french guys from the 1960's would do. i had a minor fit on this one because my burner refused to recognize my mp3 of wendy carlos' "timesteps" - i therefore apologize for the redundancies of varese and risset that ensued. the harry partch titles are too long to fit well in this format, but they're great in their entirety. discs three and four incorporate more current, rhythmic stuff, but there's still quite a bit of noise and freakishness to be found as well. they're actually more fun to listen to than i thought they would be.

While I could ragve about all 4 of these discs. Disc Two with Varese and Bernard Parmegiani leaves me speechless and Disc Four is blowing my mind. The Peter Brotzmann sextet!! Again great shit!

a little absinthe, an ironing board and a pile of wrinkled clothing would go great with this

You simply cannot beat I am sitting in a room, it's creepy and fascinating and brilliant. And there's nothing wrong with Varese redundancy - he's one of the five greatest composers of all time, in my opinion. The top four being Sousa, A.L. Webber, Katrina from Katrina and the waves and the guy who wrote the Mr. Belvedere theme song, of course.

Great four CD set Teapin. Could you make a copy for me, my mother, my aunt Ruth, my neighbor's Cocker Spaniel, my local TV weatherman, the vagrant who's always asking for my aluminum cans, my broker, my high school science teacher, my probation officer, the chick who cuts my hair, my nephew's babysitter, the bartender at my favorite watering hole...

damn! does that also mean I'm going to miss out on your five CD exploration of animal training records? My friend's Cocker Spaniel was really looking forward to it! :)

Actually the bitch has everything by Mr. Cocker, but she'd love to hear something by Spaniel Ballet of Cocker Rebel. BTW, I'll be posting your mix either tomorrow or Thursday.

Wow. This is uniformly great. That Peter Brotzmann piece is a bitch, and you gotta love Merzbow.
