Comment:
mix made as a synth-tinged new wavy/post-punk soundtrack to this old zine i've been reading called "nonstop malfunction: europe 81". this particular slice of the rambling story opens with our narrator coming down from another night of substance abuse, smoking cigarettes and staring out the kitchen window while indecipherable german tv babbles on, getting in a fight with his girlfriend about his downward spiral, leaving her to hook up with some seedy acquaintances in berlin, copping in the park and getting high before clubhopping. by the end of the night, he's feeling completely alienated and stranded on the wrong continent. not the most uplifting story ever told, to be sure, but it was still fun to try to capture the right vibe (angsty disaffection) with bands i had some serious mis/pre-conceptions about. anyway, the result is actually more fun to listen to than you would think - the instrumentals keep it abstract and listenable enough to make the moody pathos bearable. this whole thing was also somehow motivated by the back story to the making of david bowie's "low" album, as well as by the hypnotizing, raw-looking sore on the pale arm of the lead singer from modern english that i couldn't help but stare at every time i saw the video for "i'll melt with you."Feedback:
Einfach Klasse,as they say auf deutsch.
This is great, teapin. I may want to have you toss this onto our next pile.
smokin'!!
A++
Wow, pretty crazy stuff here... hey, did you check out my "Less than Zero"cd? It was made in semi-tribute to some of your past works...
Excellent. Nice to see A Certain Ratio on your mix. I've always thought of them as Joy Division meets the Commodores.
wunderbar. very very cool...story fits perfectly with songs.
Ha! Good to see I'm no longer the only person here with a La Dusseldorf track on a mix! This is another one I may request a copy of...
I'm afraid to even ask to trade with you - one, because there's no way anything I make will measure up - and two, because the list of requests on my part will be incredibly long...
Some of the best tracks by some of the greatest bands ever. I might just tape this one for myself. Great job.
