Comment:
this should really be subtitled "how college radio saved my life." kunm in albuquerque had a punk show on thursdays that i would tape as much of as possible and then listen to over and over and over again, feverishly tracking down band names and trying to figure out song titles and then heading to bow wow records or natural sound in search of precious vinyl. from sometime around september of 1990, this is the only one of those tapes that has survived into the 21st century. needless to say, it blew my 17 year-old mind and was a major influence on my developing musical tastes. by now, it's become a highly cherished relic from a long lost era, full of all the things that make college radio fun and exciting: great songs, spots for upcoming shows and for various programs on kunm, funny miscues by the amateurish dj's, with a few local bands thrown in as well. it's also a telling document of those pre-nevermined times: metal was still influencing punk to some extent and grunge was beginning to register on the national subconscious. anyway, i finally tracked down that culture shock album in seattle in 1998 (staring at me in the bargain bin at fallout records...). i recognized that filth song when i got the blatz/filth double cd from lookout! about a year ago, too. this is also where i got the inspiration for the peni bit that ended up on that "frenzy twitch" mix. crimpshrine ended up being one of my favorite bands during high school. and there's still some blanks left over that need filling in. title = ramones.Feedback:
i call this 'yummy'
And you said you weren't a big fan of pop music. ;) Looks good, although there isn't much I recognize. I think Neighborhood Watch were from San Diego, but I could be wrong. So what happened to all those tapes that didn't survive? Did they eventually disintegrate under your car seat like mine always did?
Looks really great, my friend. Perhaps you can include this when we get our next round of trades straightened out... no rush, though, as I'm way behind...
wow, i used to do the exact same thing whenever i'd hear kscu playing punk music...but all those tapes are long since vanished.
yeah, very nice. Just for the record, I make these sorts of tapes NOW, of my friends' shows and the shows of people I'll just idolize forever. . . . and it's good to see I'm not the only obsessive one. By the way some of these bands like the Circle Jerks (obviously), Neurosis and Crimpshrine (great pick) still get played every so often.
nice going...PUNK !
very cool. i wish i still had some of my old punk mix tapes. oi.
Swamp Zombies + Rudimentary Peni = Great googly-moogly!
