Comment:
Yes, it's back -- the third installment of the Girlie Pop series. This time I was able to cram 30 artists from 30 different countries on one disc, but unfortunately I had no room for the US or Australia (sorry Sue!). Thanks go out to the following for their contributions: Lucyisblue (Vancouver Nights), Teapin (Gal Costa), Adr80 (Lio), Saaf (Helena V.) and Lakespeed (for a digital version of the Shop Assistants' song). As always, I'm open to suggestions for future editions. I don't think I've scratched the bottom of the barrel yet. I'd also like to wish all my fellow AOTMers a wonderful Christmas and New Year! Thanks to this site, I have twice as many friends as I had at this time last year. Let's hug.
Feedback:
Excellent Ion. Hooray for Yma Sumac. Wouldn't mind trading for this if you're up for it. Happy holidays to you and yours.
Hey, nice one Ion...although I'm not near the fan of "Girl Groups" as you....(I'm not even in the same area code)...wonder if "Clavel Purpura" is some kinda' take on "Claviceps Purpurea", the ergot fungus of Eleusis..?
Naomi and the Boys - yay! Of course you realize, I would love to hear this. Super swell.
Wonderful. Well worth the wait. Yma Sumac from Peru? Some say she's really Amy Camus from Brooklyn! Oye Vey! You newlyweds have a special xmas together as well. :-)
Love to hear this. I loved Girlie Pop Volume 2 so much I have two copies. Anyway...stick this one in my pile.
Oh, I forgot to say please...sorry.
Looks great. Wish I knew more of these artists!
wow! You are exhaustive in your research and composition of mixes, my friend. Great work. Have a really good Christmas! We have to trade after the fun and games have passed.
Very Nice! looks like a great collection.Incidently I have the Jackie Gleason album from which the cover art came from, part of my -album covers with disembodied heads collection.
looking smashing, mmm girls from czechoslovakia (thats's even hard to spell ;)), enjoy a great weekend now Ion and let's talk girlie pop trades later on
I don't have ANY idea who half the artists on this mix are, but I am intrigued beyond a shadow of a doubt! You always have the most wonderful ideas for mixes and execute them beautifully!
Nice, Ion.
Wow! Cool mix and great cover!
fan-tastic!
very cool
The Moulis and the Mahotellas rule anyway, but I'm also a dead sucker for Solex, Sumac and Pavone. Dunno if I'll ever forgive your including Oirish caterwaulers the Cranberries, though. Who needs any of THAT sauce? ;)
wow, ion, you really know your girly pop! don't worry about not including any aussies for me, though. didn't you include some the last time anyway? by the way, i've got my computer back - anton (as you know, my ex) brought it over this morning - his girlfriend's father is lending him his laptop! hope your xmas was nice and happy new year to you too! kim is djing at a disco nite at a local hotel (bar) and i'm going along for some laughs.
ooooo
i'm all about that yma sumac.
i'm all about that yma sumac.
This is great. Nice job.
your mixes are so eclectic and great. i feel like looking at your record/cd collection would be my idea of heaven!
I love this mix, Its so diffrent from what you normally see on here, Good work!
Reguarding Ooberman - Yes, Shorley Wall is typical of their sound. You should check out 'Bluebell morning' or 'We will know when we get there'. Both songs have a feel of the classic Shorley wall. :0)

This is just a great mix. I admit I also quailed a little at seeing the Cranberries in there, but it ends up working just fine in context. Packed with bands I'm glad to have had help discovering.
Merry Christmas, Moe-ho ho ho..
p.s I love the girlies on show here :)
