Comment:

i tried to capture the group of songs that best reflect the contentment i feel in my personal life, the nervousness i feel about the state of the world, and being homesick for virginia and hills and green things. i'm not musically adventurous-- i like things i hear on tv, read about in books, or hear piped in the speakers of border's. i don't listen to the radio except for npr. a couple of the songs (the spoken word stuff, the last broadcast end credits, marionette eight, dame darcy) i got by holding a microphone to the tv speakers to make wav files. the trio of xtc, modest mouse, and yo la tengo are my 3 favorite songs on Earth in that order. the picture i got from a february 2003 Chicago Tribune paper. on the left is a footprint on the moon, and the right is a sole of a boot from one of the Columbia astronauts. both out of place and unnatural in their surrounding, only one is a cause for happiness and the other is a cause for grief. and it's a picture of two left feet, which is appropriate considering the mix maker.
