Comment:
My first obligatory covers mix, but with a slight twist -- men are singing songs originally sung by women and vice versa. The latter was easy, but the former presented a bit more of a challenge. Somehow I missed Redd Kross, who've covered Shonen Knife, The Go-Go's and the Carpenters. Oh well, maybe next time. Once again, I'm a bit behind on some of my trades, but I'm doing my best to catch up. If you've set up a trade with me and haven't heard from me in awhile, please let me know! I might have forgotten.
Feedback:
Cool concept, Ion. I've long admired the brave musicians secure enough in their sexuality to cover songs from the other side of the gene pool. Extra points if they make no gender changes in the lyrics.
ineressin' idea, gender bender covers...here's a
quiz.
quiz.
This looks freaking awesome! Great twist on things. I'm not worthy!
mmmm looks tasty,a lot of stuff i haven't heard but I think I (and that's just me) should picked the Pure hell version instead of that Megadeath version but that's me
Excellent idea. Very well done.
Every time I think I've seen all the cool covers, someone like you proves me wrong.
i recently found bts doing a cover of macy gray's song where it's like "i try to say goodbye and i..." its shitty quality but martsch does it so well
oh yeah, and the smiths, or morrissey does "golden lights" and sandie shaw, a sixties pop singer sings "hand in glove"---great idea nice mix
Terrific job. You are right, come to think of it, there are fewer covers by men of songs originally by women, what's up with that?
would you be interested in a trade? if so email me with AOTM in the note
great stuff, Ion!
Fantastic, Ion.
excellent mix!
Great one, Ion.
Hey Ion, cool idea and great execution. The Cardigans doing "Mr. Crowley"? Wow, that must be cool. It is a pretty great song. And Heavenly coving the Groovies? Man, I'd like to hear that too. Let me know when you're up for a round o' trading. I love fastbacks doing that Raspberries song.
Very good, I'd love to here that Solex/Pavement cover... Fountains of Wayne! I saw a test screening of "Rules of Attraction" in Orange County about a year ago, and that song was used as the temp score during one scene, but I had no idea that it was them...
wow...just, wow.
any chance I could grovel for a trade?
any chance I could grovel for a trade?
This is fantastic.
Absolutely fantastic!
Just wonderful. But I didn't expect anything less anyway. ;-)
Super terrific mix, Ion!
What Thomas and the Femme d'Insect said....., another Moe-ish classic.
Extremely cool concept and execution. When I saw the White Stripes in Detroit, their performance of "Jolene" absolutely blew my mind.
No, Ion, I haven't found a B&S tshirt for Xuxu yet - but I will be saving all my band tshirts for her to wear when she gets older! By the way, I think you owe me an email!
Thank you! Hope you weren't serious about the coma?? Very cool concept. Shop Assistants version of Ace of spades was brilliant. Cracked me up, too.
hey man, its shoegazing dave -- great mix and great idea!! anyways ive moved, but im back -- check out my mixes, and we should switch!!! Keep up the great mixes! peace
Solex covered "Shady Lane"? *off to the file sharing networks*
Wow, how were you able to find so many examples of this concept?! I know like... one (lol), and it's not on here: Future Bible Heroes covering Human League's "Don't You Want Me", nice one too!
haven't heard that radiohead cover. or any of the other songs, actually. looks interesting all the same.
Great idea & mix. I really need to get caught up with your mixes.
Cool. I did this with girls covering guys called it Deja Vu, in case you're interested. Am trying to get the guys together now (and you're right, they are more difficult).
Great idea. This is one of the most interesting mixes I've seen.
