Comment:

I can't wait for summer so I made a mix for this upcoming summer. If I have to listen to The Red Hot Chili Peppers in another barbeque again I'll flip my wig and stab somebody. I was really bored today so I wrote a little comment to each song, but don't take them to seriously.

The Ventures - Hawaii Five-O Theme Song
The best theme song to a TV show ever and one hell of an opener to any mix.
Clinic - Voodoo Wop
Opens up with congas and a tense guitar line that by the end crashes into an almost ambient interlude with cool crashing waves and a dreamy vocal.
Pavement - Summer Babe
I can't make a summer mix without this song, instant chills and good memories.
One Last Wish - This Time
One of the highlights from my beloved Dischord box set, One Last Wish was another incarnation of Rites of Spring. Guy Picciotto's feverish vocals evoke a trembling sense of nervous urgency that is gently quelled by soothing, warm background vocals.
Broken Social Scene - KC Accidental
Like tossing a bunch of mechanical toys from Blade Runner in a box and kicking it down a staircase. Beautiful.
Fugazi - Arpeggiator Demo
In the finalized version on End Hits it's sounds like an all out fucking guitar duel between Guy and Ian, like two deadly wasps circling each other in a game of death. Or something. A total mindfuck of a song and my favorite instrumental of all time. In this demo version from the Instrument soundtrack the guitars swirl around each other like lazy bumblebees bouncing clumsily from flower to flower and the drums sound like they are being pounded underwater.
Guided By Voices - Kicker Of Elves
Duh, duh, duh. kicker of elves.
Violent Femmes - Blister In The Sun
It fits.
The Clash - Rudie Can't Fail
This one also fits.
Operation Ivy - Sound System
Op Ivy has been a staple in my stereo in the summer months since I was 14. This ode to music is perfect.
Minutemen - The Glory Of Man
Dig that jittery guitar riff and those cardbox drums, my favorite Minutemen song.
Satan's Pilgrims - Music To Watch Girls Go By
A nice little surf instrumental.
Built To Spill - Carry The Zero
This song is perfect for lounging on the porch with a cold beer in hand while shielding the sharp sun from your eyes.
Sleater-Kinney - Oh
I listened to this song eight times in a row once. Love the hic-up vocals.
The Cars - Just What I Needed
`I don't mind you coming here wasting all my time.' this song follows the previous song with a truly memorable and warm guitar hook dipped in cotton candy.
And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - How Near, How Far
The drumming is like machinegun rounds of applause that roll across the song like hailstorm on a tin roof. The highlight of Source Tags & Codes, an album I always will associate with last year's summer.
Bob Mould - See A Little Light
Bob Mould is great, even when he doesn't mumble.
Misfits - Children In Heat
An often overlooked but truly great Misfits song, but still aren't they all?
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - Come Baby Come
My new favorite band.
Husker Du - Celebrated Summer
A nostalgic remembrance of summers past with a somewhat bitter edge.
Dead Kennedys - Moon Over Marin
Now it's starting to go dark outside. This song was on a Transworld skateboard video that my brother and I used to watch religiously almost everyday one summer a couple of years ago. I whistle along to East Bay Ray's evil sounding surf guitar every time.
Tom Waits - Jockey Full Of Bourbon
A whispered tale of sleazy motel rooms, infidelity, Cuban jails, bourbon and bloody murder sung in a creepy snuff film wheeze. This song is also the theme song to my favorite Jarmusch movie.

This is pretty damn good. I need sommer too. All very fitting picks, though the Tom Waits song both depresses and scares me. "Your house is on fire, your children are alone". Oh, and the cover is great too.

Thanks! My CD burner is going bat shit the moment, I have to burn all my mixes at my friends place, so it's a bit tricky for me to trade right now. Sorry.

Alright, I'm going to go out on a limb here - mind having babies with me?
Do you do this for a living or were you just born awesome?

Seriously, your descriptions inspired me to go digging around for some tracks I had but could never fit together - and it's wonderful. What a great way to start the summer.
