Comment:

As promised, the sequel to Pet Soundalikes, posted last August. Once again, I included more songs that were influenced by the Beach Boys, as well as several more covers. I tried to incorporate suggestions from the first mix, as well as some new discoveries and leftovers that didn't make it onto the first one. Only the High Llamas are making a repeat appearance, although some might argue that they ARE the Beach Boys! ;) Plenty of people to thank on this one: Valis (Squires of the Subterrain), Saaf (Hudson Brothers), Stephen Royce (pas/cal), lo fi jr. (Glen Campbell), Popkulcher (Sonic Youth, as well as some technical help) and last but not least, Thomas Mohr, who sent me a wonderful CD full of Beach Boys-esque songs, three of which were included here (Shudder to Think, the Honeys and the Fantastic Baggys).

I rubbed my eyes in disbelief when I saw this on top of the recent 100. Months after the original, and it certainly looks worth the wait. That first one was tough to follow up, but this is definitely a worthy sequel. Great work.

I've had so much fun wit the first volume of this... it's GREAT to see the long-pomised sequel... I know you will have made valis very happy with the Shins picks. But alas you broke my heart by still leaving out Beulah (I consider "Calm Go the Wild Seas" to be a dead ringer for the Beach Boys). But still, this looks so very good, and also sounds like a great future trade bait.

Dear broken-hearted -- at least I got your Apples In Stereo suggestion in! ;) As for Beulah, I guess I'll have to do a volume 3 now...

Wonderful!

Oh yes, I am very very happy to see Apples included... and here's to a volume 3 if it ever comes to pass... my only other suggestion for it, Linus of Hollywood.

this should help to maintain anyone fading innocence. I wonder what the Glen Campbell sounds like?

Fantastic! "Reads" like another stunner, Young Master! Thanks for including the Squire himself..and the Shins!!! (Patrick, you're right-though you understated by a bit: I'm ecstatic!) Steve: the Glen Campbell version is pretty good, esp. the "intro'"...(I'll take the Wondermints version every time in comparison, though.) Oh, and there does have to be a V3....but, you have a year to work on it. ;-) Thanks Ion.

Excellent followup, Ion! Yes, Adventures In Stereo, I would never have thought of them, but it absolutely fits. I think you could go 100 volumes on this theme. One interesting direction would be the music that first inspired Brian: The Four Freshmen, Chuck Berry, the Everlys, etc.
