Comment:

31) in the ghetto 32) US male

This one has been a long time coming. I don't know if I can add much to the Elvis story, other than the fact that he's the man who got me into rock n roll in the first place. When I was 12 years old the first album I ever bought with my own money was "The Sun Collection". I still like it now as much as I did when I was 12, perhaps more. That magnificent voice, the great sound of the sun studio, and Scotty Moore's fluid, hair-raising guitar licks. Still think it's the greatest rock n roll record ever made, and that's why it's so heavily represented here. Elvis in the fifties was indescribably essential. No need to detail the sad reasons for his decline and early death, but his later work had some moments of greatness. This is my small tribute to the man who set the ball rolling for me. Many Elvis fans will probably have thirty-odd different tracks from me, but these are my very favourites. Enjoy.

Elvis became such a parody of himself that it's easy to lose sight of how original and brilliant a performer he was. Awesome collection. I'm with you - the Sun collection is life-changing. And Scotty Moore? Totally amazing.

i'm always interested to see late-period Elvis picks, so tracks 24-32 are the most cool to me here. US Male is a great finale. Soild choices.

Great Gerry....! The Elvis so many prefer. While track choices may differ, there's no losers here either!

my parents got me hooked on Elvis young (must've been strange for people to see a 6 year old singing along to "suspicious minds")... but on behalf of Elvis fans everywhere: Thank yuh, thank yuh verruh much! ;)

Sean Lally hit the nail on the head with his comments so I won't repeat him but this is a cool mix.

Great tribute Gerry . I agree that early is best, but I still dug such later ones as Kentucky Rain and Patch it Up, and others.

Elvis, Scotty & Sam. If they didn't invent rock 'n' roll, they turned the crank and started the engine running.

Nice one. I did something similar a couple of years ago ("Let's get real, real gone for a change" is the name, I think.) I, however, did not have anything past the 50's to choose from.
