Comment:

This is My Mix number 34 (a bit under a year old, 90 minute cassette.) The Apollo 440 track is good for a laugh. It's a bit catchy but only because it's a total rip off of Led Zeppelin (as in note-for-note and without credit). Bomfunk MCs are a Finnish rap/techno combo that rap in English and had a hit in Europe in 2000 while I was there. This is a mellow drum 'n' bass mix of that hit. The Beck mix is also a nice chill-out version. "Hubert and Conchita" are characters in the movie "Rat" which is a fine film about an Irish man who turns into a rat. The characters sing this tune at the end of the movie. The Rich Hall/Talking Heads thing was recorded from VH1's show about the music of Saturday Night Live hosted by Martin Short (title is from his commentary). It starts with Rich Hall impersonating David Byrne in the giant suit and singing a parody: "You might ask yourself, 'could this suit be taken in a little?'". On side 2, I did something I'd always wanted to do on a mix tape: I paired a Weird Al parody with its original version. That was fun and then I decided I might as well go overboard and have The Chipmunks make it a little Michael Jackson party. The B.C.-52's are of course The B-52's in stone age disguise. "Dog Pound Hop" is most widely recognized as the theme music from Ren and Stimpy. "These Boots Were Made for Walkin'" is an example of a number of compositions which I dislike in their original, vocal forms, but adore in the shape given them by The Ventures. ("Sugar, Sugar" is another of these) Vic Ruggiero is the vocalist from The Slackers and "Time" is one of his solo projects. And . . . Elefantfahrstuhlfnhreraufzugsleiter means elephant elevator operator. This is a fun counting song from Sesamstrasse (German Sesame Street). Oh, and "A View to a Kill" is the only Duran Duran song I like. Tchnss!

That Weird Al track is from 198-friggin'-4?! Crickey, I had no idea. That's terrifying for some reason. I think I'm older than I think I am... or something. Out.

Actually, Dru, it's from '88. So you're four years less older than you think you are! Doesn't that feel better? (I was afraid the title would imply that this was a theme tape . . . but it's not)
