Comment:
This tape is mix number 42 in my series of tapes made for my own personal use (car, living room, walkman, and now the shower!)(120 minutes, title is from "Lost in the Supermarket"). For the fun of it, the tape starts with a Python sketch that's a mock ACTION NEWS program about storage jars. "Rose-Rose" is performed by a bunch of kids and a lady with a piano, the song is sung to the tune of "What shall we do with a drunken sailor" (or whatever it's called). It's great 'cause it's a such a severe, minor-key tune yet it's sung by children and it's about waking up. The Modern Lovers were a band that when it started out featured Jerry Harrison (later of Talking Heads) and David Robinson (later of The San Antonio Spurs, er, The Cars). This is the best track from an LP of their early recordings, most of which are mildly amusing but not really good. "Bumble Bee Twist" is The Ventures' twistin'-surf-rock rendition of "The Flight of the Bumble Bee". Ha! I paired "Money" with "Money Honey"! How clever! "Mystery Train", which is a song Elvis did in the fifties, is from a Stray Cats CD of live recordings that I found on the budget rack at Wal*Mart of all places. The Cab Calloway song is from the soundtrack to "Forbidden Zone" which was a movie by Richard Elfman, brother to Danny Elfman, leader of The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo who perform most of the music on the soundtrack. The Kipper Kids were this pair of funny lookin' guys whose act is that they make funny faces and stupid sounds. So for the movie, this song has a bunch of "oo ee aa, thppt" pasted onto it. "This is the Life" is a bit of a reprise of that "corruptive power of money" theme that was going on back there. "Ugly" is from Fishbone's first release, a six-song 12" EP. Five Iron Frenzy is (was?) a Christian ska-punk band and here they are performing an ELO song. "Dr. Worm" is from TMBG's DVD "Direct From Brooklyn". Dr. Lonnie Smith, the jazz organist, did a CD of Beck tunes. This is a jazz instrumental based mostly around the riff in "Devils Haircut", which is funny because that riff is the part Beck didn't write, it's from the song "I Can Only Give You Everything" which was recorded by several artists such as The Troggs, Them, and MC5. Len's album "You Can't Stop The Bum Rush" which gave us their only hit, "Steal My Sunshine", is actually a fun record that's worth owning. I have it on a picture disc LP. The Jaxx track is a B-side from the "Rendez-Vu" single. The Daft Punk remix is from their "D.A.F.T." DVD. "Ich Rocke" means "I Rock". And finally, "My Name is Stegosaurus" is a particularly special song for me because it's from an LP called "Our Dinosaur Friends" which is one my kindergarten teacher played repeatedly; "Stegosaurus" was one of our favorites. I found the LP a while ago and I was thrilled. Roar!Feedback:
I need to hear the son from the dinosaur albut to find out if it is the correct one!
Maybe this'll help; here are some of the lyrics: My name is stegosaurus! I'm a funny looking dinosaur! On my back are many bony plates and on my tail there's more!
I would love to find out where to get a copy of Our Dinosaur Friends (for the early years). It would make one 3 yo excited. He loves Stegosaurus and Tyrannosaurus Rex! I can't find my original-must've loaned it to another teacher.
Thanks for any help!
Thanks for any help!
Wow, I didn't realize the LP was so sought after, yet hard to find! You're not the first person to contact me as a lead. Unfortunately, I only have one copy. Good luck!
